9.5 years out of a motorcraft battery

My wife and I bought a Ford Escape 2.5l in 2009 when we had our second child. With this super cold snap, I've had to jump her the past few days, so I decided it was time for a new battery. We had both thought that it had been replaced at some point. When I took the cover off, turns out it was the original battery! 9.5 years, ain't bad.

What's the longest you've had a battery make it?

Big deal! I got two years out of an O'Reilly's battery. And two years out of the one before that. I'll spread my wealth out to Walmart this time. TDF

I generally get 10-11 years from 12V batteries, 5-6 years from 6Vs.

Abuse will shorten life.

Just replaced the original battery on my 2010 Escape today. I bought the vehicle new and know I never replaced the battery before today. Temps down to 21 below finally killed it. New battery cost $180 with core charge of $9.95 and sales tax.

Glen,

I bought a DEKA from Gasser True Value for $107. They didn't have the recommended battery, but I found one that was close. It was too tall, but Ford made the battery box with two different mounting points for the tie-down bolts, so it fit without its OEM cover. New battery is 650CCA versus I think 580CCA of the original battery. Win, win.

The old battery in my JD 50 was bought new in 2004. The tractor starts quick - good thing because that battery doesn't like the cold.

I have over 20 12v batteries. Some last
longer than others. On average I replace
2 batteries a year.

I will replace car and truck batteries
every 5 years and put those two batteries
in dump trailer or a tractor. Last thing
I want to do is get stranded away from
home.

I also monitor condition of batteries so
I know ahead of time before they fail.

10 years out of strongbox hibernator batteries in a
4020 3et long and skinny they were still good but a
cable got loose on the battery post and fried the
post

Best I've ever had was one month short of fourteen years, on a 2004 Dodge Cummins. It was still starting, but cranking slower than it used to. Most I have are around 5-6 years tops.

I bought a cheap Wal-Mart everstart
battery in spring of 2003 and put it in
my Ford TW-20. Sold the tractor in fall
of 2016 and battery was still starting it
then. Sometimes you get a good cheap
battery, sometimes you get a bad
expensive battery. Luck of the draw!

I got 9 outa a farm and fleet battery in my truck and less than 2 outa the interstate I replaced it with.

In my 2003 f-150 I bought new, I got 11 years out of the original battery. I know a replacement will never last that long!

getting ten years of life from an automotive battery is quite common. they should not be run dead and kept up to last that long, plus regular use is the answer.

I still have the originals in my 2004 dodge Cummins. Started fine on 15 degree temps here in central Pa the other week when I ran it. Just about 15 years, and still amazed. Guess I'll find out middle this week if it will start around 0 degrees.

I had a Walmart battery in my tractor that failed and got a free replacement. The second one has been going at least 10 years.
