Battery -- sort of comical by now

I've been watching an almost-new 12-volt battery on C-List for nearly a month. It would work in two of my tractors. The post has been renewed every few days for a total of about a dozen times. Listing insists "calls only." No phone number is listed! (No other contact info, either.) I'm sure the would-be seller wonders why no one is interested. I've clicked repeatedly on C-List's offer to email the seller, but it appears he/she never reads email. It all makes you wonder about some folks. I've pretty much given up on buying the battery. Now I just check it occasionally out of morbid curiosity to see if a phone ever gets listed. Have you ever experienced this kind of situation in trying to buy something?

Last summer I listed some firewood on craigslist, I state phone calls only, but I left out the last digit by accident. A fellow emailed me, and I got right back to him, and he bought a load of wood, and I updated my add. We check our email multiple times a day usually, but many don't, and some have multiple email accounts.

Yes, its always a gamble dealing with people selling, or buying for that matter...

Tried to hire some brick work on Craigslist. Back and forth on the phone, waiting, waiting, no show, no answer. Finally got through, got cussed out for bothering him, sounded drunk. Wasted my day waiting for him. Probably a good thing in the long run.

Went to buy a commercial stainless sink, set up the time, called first, "yeah come on over, I'll be there". Well he wasn't. Waited around, called, voice mail, no response... After about 45 minutes I was leaving, here he came. "Oh I had some running around to do..."

I'd give it about a 50/50 chance, that seems to be my track record for successfully making a deal happen on Craigslist or the want ads.

Yes, I see ads like that from time to time.

Who knows, it may be part of some sort of a scam???

LOTS of strange stuff goes on.

Some where on another forum is a guy saying " I don't know why I can't sell my battery on craigslist it is the worst ". LOL !
Guy at work had a trick played on him by "friend" and then he also played it on another. You list some goats for sale really cheap or even free ? and then put the phone number in the ad of the one you want to trick. Do it late evening. His phone will be ringing off the hook at night with people wanting the goats ! lol. It can even get better. As these people calling are something else. They won't even believe they have the wrong phone number. For some reason they all want cheap or free goats ?

THAT MY FRIEND IS AN OLD ONE!!! They used to do it all the time with some rare item on the cheap ie. 1942 4 cylinder indian motorcycle for 3 grand!!! Also some ads like food stamps or machine gun for sale and then call the appropriate agency!!

Ross the worst one for me was on a piece of land I may do a post on that one. There has been a few others with disconnected phone number or wrong number.

Mike ..... yes, the word friend in quotation marks is the key to your reply. I wouldn't do that to my friend, unless he was a friend who stole my wife away from me and now I had to learn to cook for myself ..... ha!

Then you'd love the ad I've been watching, LOL. (I agree it would be risky, but I have equipment to check battery condition.) :)

It's likely pretty new ? cables may still be attached where they were cut ! lol. Send them the size you need and they will steal one for your order.

I bought a combine from a CL ad that was online for a week. My wife said to contact them quit moping about it, this was 11:00 at night so I emailed them even tho it said phone only, intended to call in the morning.

Got an email reply an hour later.

When I called in the morning, some lady who didn?t know what a combine is answered.

They had a wrong number in their ad.

So I was the only one who contacted them, I emailed again and we got together that way.

Had a small car lot/repair shop post about a parts car on CL. Gave a vague idea of address and only a phone number. Problem was, it was my wife's number, not his! Told CL to take it down, they did, he reposted-same wrong number. We had had enough, so I set out to find him. I did-his cell phone began with 670, but had posted 680, which was my wife's number. I asked him to PLEASE check his number from now on...!

i've run across several ads like that. Seems like they don't want anyone to contact them because the ad is a secret code to let a spy know when to pick up at a secret message drop.
