Whoever planted that corn did a great job of setting the wire almost perfect. My DAD was very good doing that job cause after making one round crossing with two row the hills were in line.

I think with that model you used a gallon glass jug, wrapped in a wet gunny sack, that was left in the shade at one end of the field. gm

Could be tobacco, that's how it used to be set prior to herbicides for plowing purposes. Kinda favors an early tobacco plant.

I can't quite figure number of rows out. Looking at gauge wheels I would say 6. but looks like there is only 1 row outside rear wheel so I would say 4 row.

May be a late 30's picture. Farmers switched to rubber tires in droves in the 1935-38 era. They say tractor sales changed quickly once farmers tried rubber tires.

Back when there was no wear in the steering, and the farmers had tremendous pride in having straight rows. My $.02 worth.

I love looking at the farm buildings. Even though many of the small farms around today look similar to the 1930s pictures, theres something special about the black and white photos and knowing that the picture was taken over 80 years ago.

Old wide row cultivators always had two gangs to a row, they were probably 40 or maybe even 42 inch rows, four rows for sure of checked corn
