I wouldnt see where you would need to. The heat spread into the piece when you welded it. But if you just wanted to you could put some heat on it with a torch the let it cool but not red hot

Yes. Absolutely no reason NOT to.

DEERE's used a lot of "nodular iron" "castings", and I'll bet that's what you have.

Why? What ever is going to happen already did. If it was going to crack it would as it cooled.

No, annealing will make it weaker by softening it. But it may prevent future cracking by softening the heat affected zone adjacent to the welds.

What kind of welding rod was used? If it were mine I would anneal it. Looks like some preheating was done before welding, that would have been good.

It needs to be red to really anneal it.

Not likely. JD cast is usually pretty good stuff and repairs generally hold up well. What did you weld with? If there is room for plating that would help more. I'm not familiar with that piece and haven't welded one, so it's not likely a trouble piece, so repairs are more likely to hold.

He is going to gusset it as time permits he?s been busy at work I don?t know what rod he used to do the repair ? They are not normally a problem area on these tractors I?ve used and abused the 3 point hitch on these and never broke one before I really think the cause was the 3 point on the scraper was set so wide that when I caught the cement that?s what caused the break
