The same as it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie-roll pop.
A one, A two, A three. Crunch! LOL

Totally assumption of course. No legal defense offered.

Why would I think that might actually be true?
If I bump the turn signal switch on my truck, not hold it, just
bump it, the computer will flash that turn signal three times.

"that's what I have been told by California highway patrol 3 full blinks"

I hope that the information provided by the CHIPS did not result in a ticket.

I think some Arkansas drivers haven't figured
out what that stalk on the left side of the
steering wheel is for. A lot of them don't signal
until they start turning.

That sounds about the same as NJ. Actually it might be 600 feet. The driving
test was 48 years ago.

Doesn't make any difference today because it seem like nobody knows how to use or are to lazy to use them.I always give ample time so people behind me know what I am going to do.

Put the left turn signal on when you leave your driveway and leave it on until you get home LOL

Based on my experience driving a semi on the east coast, the turn signal needs to blink only once. If it blinks twice and you have not begun to change lanes, the other drivers will ignore the turn signal. It works even better if you begin changing lanes before you use the turn signal.

I was pulled over once for failure to signal lane changes, I had one flash show on my dash but since the flash on the dash alternates with the flash on the outside, I was not getting the outside flash. "I was told" makes it official YTDOT law.

In Dallas using a turn signal is a sign of weakness.

It only alerts the drivers around you to block you so you can't make your exit.

Besides, who can carry on a phone conversation with that annoying clicking going on?

Someday, just for fun and when you have nothing better to do, use hand signals instead of the turn signal. I've done that a few times and the reaction is anything from odd stares to a thumbs up from some guy way older than I am.

We make fun of southern drivers, but no different in my back yard, funniest is when you are behind someone turning, completely stopped waiting for traffic to clear, and then they put the blinker on. Little late there, coulda used the waning as you started to slow tho!

In the greater Boston area directionals signal the driver who is two hundred yards back, overtaking you slowly, to floor it in order to block you from your lane change.

Not sure if it would be fun Bret if someone didn't see the hand signals or understand what it meant.
Probably not a good idea even if a guy was bored and looking for some excitement.

I've been hit twice on a tractor making a left into the driveway, and several more close calls. A hand signal well in advance means nothing. One even said "I thought you were waving me on". Young kids both times.

It's not so much about people knowing how to use the turn signals, the problem is people don't feel anybody else has a right to know they plan to turn.

I had to take the road test to renew my DL last month 'cause I'm old!!!Probably the most
I've used my signals in 5 years..........................................gtm

I don't use my turn signals because I always forget to turn them off and I don't want the other drivers thinking I am old and hard hearing.

Here you never trust a turn signal. They will put them on and then keep driving. Watch for the front wheels to move the front end .

(quoted from post at 00:05:35 01/17/19) how many blinks does a turn signal have to make to be legal?

What do all the answers with feet have to do with blinks?

Mule Boss, a lot of people answering the OP are not familiar with YTDOT, therefore they mistakenly take the question to relate to actual law which of course is in feet as opposed to blinks.

Pretty sure on my state hand signals are still in the driving exam booklet. I see a lot of motorcycles, old ones, on the summer with no signal lights. They use hand signals.

When I was a little guy I used to ride with my grandfather to the big city a couple times a week. There was a left turn off Rt 9 north of Warrensburg NY where you got onto Rt 28. MY grandfather would invariably turn on his left signal and make the turn which, if northbound as we were, wasn't even a 45 degree turn, it was a "Y" so to speak. That "blinker" would stay on for the next 17 miles every time. I'll never forget those days, with the AM radio on WGY playing nothing but static and an occasional bit of Harry Downey or Paul Harveys broadcast coming in for 7 seconds. The good old days!
