Seen this before?

Two machines being transported in Iceland. The little guy I don't think I've seen before. Talked to the transporters, told me its main use is picking up bales to feed to the livestock. Looks a bit spendy. Anyone use one like that on this side of the water? They had an attachment on it for picking up tractor tires to help with installation, mounting, etc. I thought that was its main purpose when I first saw it.

Around here the dairy farmers all have a tire and wheel setup like that on the front of the first one. They set the sidewall of that tire on the cement and drive along the manger. The wheel turns and pushes the feed back towards the cows.

We have a telehandler(skytrac) we use for putting hay into the barn, on an old hip roof barn with round bales. If it is running when we need to feed we have used it or if the snow is deep it gets around better than our loader.

Yes, that's the explanation i got, but wasn't understanding it due to some limitations with the language. Looks like maybe it could be adapted for other uses with different attachments.

The truck with the loader tractor was pulling the trailer with the smaller machine.

The two were probably parked awhile--hence the buildup of snow from the freezing temps and strong winds blowing it sideways.

Interesting the equipment that now makes sense due to the shortage of labor on the farms these days. We never used to see things like bale processors, truck-mount bale feeders, and those huge grain carts, but now everybody has them to save time and labor.

Red, I have to ask, are you really in Iceland-Iceland, as in the island in the north Atlantic? Are you an Icelander or stationed there for work or armed forces station?

Interesting to see things from over there. It's, errr, not as icy as the name would lead one to think.

Yes, I'm here in Iceland. Usually come in winter as work lets me get away and I like the less touristy aspect of the season. Still have friends here from work, so it's a time to reconnect and see the wild places again. This year has much less snow than usual.

rrlund---this setup, tractor and wheel gizmo--is dedicated to one purpose as far as I can tell. As Tractorcedric pointed out, dairy farmers in his area commonly use these to push the hay towards the cows inside the barn. And that's the explanation the transporters gave as well. I thought maybe one could put different attachments on it, but not sure that's the case. Never seen one before. Will have to check youtube to see one in operation.
