98 3500 454 sensor

Does anyone know what this broken sensor is
called? Right over second spark plug on driver's
side.

Not 100% sure on a BBC, but SBC has the water temp sensor there in the side of the head.

It's the coolant temp sensor, operates the heat gauge.

To reiterate what Bob said, it is the temp sending unit, only for the gauge on inst panel. I can't tell if the wiring connector is broken, or the end of the sending unit came apart.
