Poor little hydraulic cylinder

Little 3.5 inch bore cylinder just isn?t up to scraper duty at least the price was right I think I?m going to upgrade to a 5 inch so I can get a 2 inch rod . Caught something buried and ripped the nut right off the rod that holds the piston . Rethreded the rod cut down a regular inch nut to be the right thickness screwed on tight with green loctite and then welded the nut on .

Had to get out the fiat to dig the tire chains out of the snow bank so I can chain up the 4020 this weekend when I go back down to work on the new baler . Also Found a smaller scraper with category 2 lift arm spacing between pins to fit the 3020

A bigger cylinder with a thicker rod will 'raise the bridge', but it might be better to 'lower the river'. Next break won't be the cylinder- could be something much more expensive. Better to build in some sort of breakaway protection for the scraper, the tractor, and you.

I?ve been looking on surplus center and I can get a
4.5 bore cylinder pretty reasonable. It would have a
1.75 diameter rod so I think I would be quite a lot
stronger . I got this cylinder off an old junk field
cultivator I scrapped

Yes It?s tweaked a little bit but works fine as far as not leaking and it goes in and out . I wish I could find the pictures of my bent farmhand loader cylinders I straightened you would be amazed
