snow plow coating question

Maryland is going to get enough snow to plow this weekend. Question is What can I use to make the snow roll off the painted surface of the plow. I was thinking floor wax.

Floor wax will work. Automotive wax (not cleaner/wax) will also work. A cross country ski wax for 5 degrees below the expected temp will be slick. Jim

Years ago when we had some really wet snow that stuck to the blade I used WD40. Worked pretty good. Please keep all that snow down in south county. Us north county folks will thank you.

When I used tractor and loader, I kept some diesel fuel in a spray bottle. Spray it down before use in wet sticky snow and nothing stuck.

Graphite paint (like for gravity boxes, snow blowers and lawn mowers) wears longer than wax. I prefer the spray version for speed and ease to apply, but the brush on leaves a thicker coat and wears longer. If you use ski wax make sure it is a down hill ski wax or a cross country glide wax. A cross country grip wax is intended to grip snow for traction climbing hills.

Be aware that any wax, paint or cooking spray will needs plenty of time to fully dry before they will shed snow well. A half dry or tacky coating will grip snow far worse than none at all, BTDT.

I coated my blade with brake fluid(it was opened 5 years ago and I am sure it has drawn moisture)last night, blade was rusty from setting. The first pass down the lane it was clean.

Used to use a product from Northwoods called Snow Wax. Used ut on plows and the chutes on blowers. Works as a release agent for concrete forms too...
