John Deere PTO air pump

I?m rebuilding my grate grandfathers John Deere pto air pump. I
shined everything up and it all works good, except the new leather
cup doesn?t slide down easily, it goes up good but you have to push
hard to get it down. Does it need oil? Is there something else I should
do to it (Other than putting grease in the zerk)?
Thanks

Did you change the leather? Or is it the old hard one?
If it's the old one, put some light oil on it to soften it up.

The piston going down is forcing air out the hole the line hooks to on the up stroke it is drawing air in thus harder to push down on the good side it means the leather is sealing good lol

I purchased a 1951 ford pickup with vacuum wipers in 2009. They would not operate.
I poured a couple of ounces of new crankcase oil in the hose that connected to the intake manifold and let it flow down.
The next day, they worked, unless you tried to accelerate up a freeway ramp, then they would wait on more vacuum.
Leather and new motor oil get along well with my stuff.
I cannot guarantee results with yours. Good luck.

Even with a new leather, it needs oil.

Oil it up, soak it with oil before using it, oil it before using it after it is stored a while.

How did the bore look? If it is rusty, hone it with a cylinder hone or clean it up with Scotchbrite.

What kind of oil should I use? I use a brass wire wheel to clean it, it?s really smooth.
Thanks.

Gotta go find some "NEATS" and squeeze a little oil out of their teeny, tiny feet!

Neetsfoot is the oil for leather, shoes, harness , pump leathers anything made out of leather. The thing is I don't know where you would find it now.

Yes.

Take a look at the information below.

Hope this helps.

James, that?s exactly what I was looking for. Do you know where I could get a manual for it?
Thanks.
