Dating my tractor

I have a grey fergie which was built with original Petrol engine now converted to TVO.

I have not been able to find a serial number to date the tractor but have an engine number of S3821E.

Can anyone help?

armers Only.com will try to fix you up with a real female, not a tractor. :)

Hahahahaha good one!

Hello Tom, and welcome to YT. Could you possibly post a pic of your tractor? Contrary to the kidding around, some of the folks here are really sharp and could likely tell you what you want to know. They just need a little more to work with.

Stick with the tractor. They're cheaper,
safer, give less problems and in the long
run are better company.

Not familiar if a gray fergie is male or female. If it is female I can ask my wife if I can take her out on a date. I think I know what the answer will be, but it never hurts to
ask.

Be careful,I think fergie could be a cross
dresser! Her real name is Ford but she add
on to the top end!

Ferguson TE20 (tractor england)
Info from wikipedia "ferguson TE20"
Compression ratio can narrow it down if
"like new" compression.1850cc had 5.77:1
comp.petrol only
2088cc had 4.5:1 comp petrol-paraffin
engine
First tractor was 1946.
Petrol until 1949, then TVO after.
Pictures would help, but any numbers would
help too if pictures aren't accessible.
Petrol says 1946 thru 1949.
As close as i can get from Texas.

Tractor Tom,
Please search wikipedia for "Ferguson TE20"

There are some pictures on the right side
of the page, but i found GOLD!!!

Scroll down to section 9 "external links"

Find, TE 20 Service manual in PDF 20 mb

Click on that link and Adobe reader will
open a 416 page service manual for that
tractor and all engine variants offered.

Some dates of manufacture are obscurely
mentioned at each engine introduction.

Good luck!

Welcome Tom!

The only serial number would have been on an aluminum tag on the dash. It was held on with screws, so not uncommon for it to be missing.

Not sure how to decode engine numbers, there is probably a way, but odds are the engine is not original.

There are date codes on some of the castings, pretty easy to figure out, but that will tell when the casting was cast, not necessarily when it was assembled, but it will give a ballpark of the maximum age.

Here is some info with all the possible models and years made. Some careful examination and process of elimination will get you close.

Friends of Ferguson Heritage Ltd appears to be a group from the UK.
I found a link at the end of the wikipedia TE20 page in external links.

At the bottom of the "friends of ferguson Heritage Ltd" page is a tab called "technical"

at that page is an index labelled "serial numbers"

another rabbit trail maybe, but they have a "contact us" tab as well. may get a bite there.
