Well, I got my corn back...

Called this AM and was told I could have it so, since it was only 27b I took it in bags and stacked it in the shed on a pallet. Pallet was more of an issue than the corn. Remembered I had stacked them all on a hay wagon and parked them over next to the woods. Tried to start the 4 wheeler but the battery had given up the ghost. Tractors are all washed and in the barn and the place is mud from end to end so I got it in my head I would walk over there and carry a pallet back. Hauling a pallet 1/4 mile down a muddy slippery lane, over a fence and then stacking 1500 lbs of corn sacks on it was more exercise than I have had in a month...but it is done. We said our farewells and wished everyone at the elevator well. A sad thing. Those fellas have been very helpful since I started with grain. Answering questions and giving advice or moral support. Hate to see it.

I'm going to miss them too......been doing business there for over 50 years......and now we have to come up with a new place to take our grain, Webberville is too far for tractor and wagons so I guess we have to come up with a new plan.........

I have a small grain truck and it is still too far to haul to Weberville. I have some ideas on how to make this all work but first I am going to wait and see what becomes of the existing elevator. It may still be an elevator next year at this time and then the problem is solved.

If your four wheeler is like most you maby could've saved a lot of work, as most of them have a rope pull starter along with the battery one.

Yes. When the battery started going south on me a month ago I searched everywhere on that engine because I thought it had a pull start also. It is an older Honda Rancher. I could not find one.

Thursday is my day to go out to business clients and do their payroll. This is my 30th year in business. Some of these places I have gone to every Thursday of the year for all 30 of those years without missing a day unless it was a holiday or vacation. Then I go the day before or after. All of my vacations for all of those 30 years were from Wednesday to Wednesday.
Long story short, cannot do it. It's a little bit of a drive for me also. Have a good time!

No, Charlie Brown, I have CLEAN tractors in the CLEAN shed so I CARRIED (not dragged) the pallet a quarter mile down the very muddy lane. From my perspective, it is easier to carry a pallet a quarter mile than it is to wash a caked in mud tractor. Made sense to me at the time. This morning with a heating pad on my shoulder....

:)

I'll compare tractors anytime you want, but once I get them put away for winter I would just as soon not pull them out again. They work hard the rest of the year. Who the heck needs a tractor to move one empty pallet anyway? Rut up the lanes. Track mud all over the place. What does an empty pallet weigh...like 30 pounds? I could have taken the truck over too but, once again, It's just been washed and it would rut up the lane. Seems kind of silly for one pallet.

Before I'd drag a pallet a quarter mile I'd definitely fire up a tractor and go get it,use my tractors to go get wood too got too hard on the wife to push the wheel barrow up on the mountain and back.
