OT: BCS Halftime Entertainment

What was that garbage!?

Even though I had turned the volume down to check email, I had to mute it.

That was absolutely awful!

The trouble is this is what a large percentage of younger people in this country want to listen too. Truthfully does anyone really get excited by a marching band unless your in the band???

I find it amazing that as many people care about the entertainment and the game both. I know many people enjoy sports and concerts but I just can not see spending the kind of money many do on this pastime. It all equals out as the majority of them could not understand my interest either. LOL

Well that's about it everyone thinks their hobby is real important and what other people do for fun or entertainment is a waste of time.If someone is doing something they enjoy, they are paying for it and its not illegal than I say more power to them and have it it.Hobbies, entertainment and the like add millions of jobs and billions to the economy.Good friend of mine makes good money as the equipment mechanic at a local golf course,he always laughs and says he loves golf even though he never plays it.

One person's garbage is another person's music, must be a whole lot of people that enjoy it or they wouldn't have it on.Advertisers want and pay for the young folks to tune in and watch.
Us Old Geezers don't count as far as advertisers are concerned. In today's world the older a person gets the less important they are considered to be,fine with me I never wanted to be important anyway(LOL)

Since it was a college game and a few college kids were watching, the networks play stuff that to keep the college kids from switching channels during halftime. Yea, that is what college kids listen to today. I was on the couch when that stuff came on and it sounded like a two cats fighting and I actually went to sleep. The wife woke me up at the beginning of the third quarter.

Not sure as it's been a long time since I owned a tv but I don't think one needs to get out of their Lay Z Boy anymore to shut it off do they?

Generally not, but in my case, I was at the computer. The TV and remote were in the other room around the corner.

For the first time in my life I felt compelled to get up and walk back into the other room to mute the sound when the screeching started.

Never happened before.

Kendrick Lamar put on one hell of a performance during halftime of the College Football Playoff National Championship between Georgia and Alabama on Monday in Atlanta.

Lamar performed outside of Mercedes-Benz Stadium and a few paces down the street at Centennial Olympic Park, where it was a bit cold and rainy during his performance.

Lamar had arguably the best album of 2017, with his fourth studio album, DAMN., that sold 603,000 copies in its first week.

Rolling Stone, like many others who enjoy hip hop, has declared him to be ?the greatest rapper alive.?

Let’s face it, fellows. We’re now the old folks that can’t understand why the young folks like what they listen to. My 16 year old daughter knew every song and I can tolerate Imagine Dragon but I drew the line at Little Wayne. Just can’t deal with Crap, I mean Rap, uh, HipHop “music”....

She likes and listens to all types of music, though. She likes to watch the Daily and Vincent Show with me. Watching their Christmas Shows, she just [i:670252fbde]COULD NOT[/i:670252fbde] understand why there wasn’t anyone under 50 in the audience....

So the next time you see someone with their wireless earbuds doing some self satisfying seizures dance while walking down the street cell phone in hand you will understand what it is that drives the country now.

Yup, pretty tough stuff to listen to in my opinion. I missed the start of the game but far worse than half time stuff is often the way the national anthems are presented these days. I watched an American college game on TV a week or so back and the anthem was played by a military band. Now, THAT is the way an anthem is supposed to be presented I would say. Get a modern-day singer from any category (pop, country, new age, rap) and they put their own slant on the song and totally ruin it, well at least for me they ruin it. Happens up here a lot too, not always but quite often.

And this. Nailed it dead on in both posts.

Yep..in the 1970's I worked for a boss that loved the "Big Band" music he grew up with. He said the Beatles, Rolling Stones, BST, etc etc..Garbage! just Awful ! was he right?

I think old people said the same thing about Elvis, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and about Bing Crosby too.

Our generation and our children's generation are not the target audience anymore. Our grandchildren's generation is now the target audience.

The sports radio guys were just saying that the college bands were on the field during halftime- the "show" that I clicked away from and nearly made Dean *gasp* get up from his computer chair to MAKE IT STOP!!!; was actually taking place somewhere else. It was piped in to the stadium and presented on television, which makes far more sense than rushing some giant stage and hundreds of dancers onto the playing surface. Maybe the band was actually playing and singing, which would be an improvement.

As for the anthem, I missed that. One of our local high schools has a great pep band, but when they do not play, the school uses a recording ripped from a video of a live performance that lasts about five minutes and features a fly-over and fireworks, which of course, are invisible to the listener...not good.

Somebody asked how weird it would be for a quick college football game to break out during intermission of a concert?

That was last year, but similar to this year, save the genre of the headlining band.

My family is under strict orders to put a bullet in my head if I ever, EVER start to act this way.

When I get old I'm going to try my darndest to remember what it was like to be young. I'm going to try to remember that different doesn't necessarily mean bad, and even if I don't like it I'm not going to fault anyone else for liking it.

So how come there are hundreds of "classic rock" FM stations, and a few that play big band music for 1 hour at 3am on Saturday night.?

I remember the old geezers in 1958 saying that rock-n-roll was just noise and would never last.

There is always a new generation of old geezers.

I don't like Hip Hop, but it is not for me.

Barney ..... "act this way" ..... you don't explain what you mean very well. From the last part of the post I read between
the lines and say that they are to shoot you (well, maybe a bit of an exaggeration) if you ever start complaining about not
liking something that is new and different, is that correct?

I think you're putting a bad spin on it. Nobody here is under any obligation to like or agree with anything that is new or
unfamiliar. And it is a discussion forum, supposedly on tractors but actually everything on the planet. Anyways, hopefully
they never have to do what you have ordered them to do, that would be a shame and they would probably regret it almost as much
as you do.
