Just reading some news article about the flu this year, seems it's the same strain as the 1918 pandemic that killed 15 million folks. Happy new year!

I haven't felt good all day. Hope it's gone tomorrow. A couple of friends have had it. They were down for over a week.

I wonder if it's terrorism, it's probably been 25 years since I've been sick with anything. Then Thanksgiving I had some kind of stomach flu and today I'm getting over a bad cold.

I don't get any of those shots. I was at doctor's office a month ago, and he thought that I should get shots at my age. I told him that the only place that I went where I would be in contact with a sick person was at his office. "End of discussion"

I'll have to remember that, and use it as a retort when someone in health care asks me if I had a flu shot.

When I was in the Marine Corps, every year they would order us all to sick bay to get a flu shot. It was not negotiable. And every year immediately afterwards I'd be flat on my back with the flu for a week. I haven't had a flu shot since.

The flu shot is only the best guess as to which strain of flu is going around this year. And has mixed results, normally very good. However in our area, type "A" flu is going around and getting folks who have had the shot. Since the flu bug continuously mutates, its always going to be a guessing game.

For the very young and very old, however, it can and has been deadly. For those who have already had the flu or the shot, its usually very much less deadly as they have some immunity to most strains.

The wife and I get nearly phobic this time of year about colds and the flu. We carry sanitizer in our trucks and slather our hands with it every time we finish shopping or going any public place. We both get the shots, but a lot of the prevention is being aware of those around you that might be sick. Missed having Christmas with half the family this year because they were sick. Just not worth it. Neither of use have ever gotten sick from the shot, but I know several folks that always do.

I had that 'same' flu in 1958 when I was 10 years old. I was in bed for a week and could hardly walk once the fever broke. I have NEVER been so sick in my Life and I understand why it would be so deadly for adults. Reading about this many years ago, several Doctors noticed that the people that DID survive the 1918 pandemic who were now in their late 60's and early 70's didn't get it this time around. I haven't gotten a flu shot since I was in High School and I haven't had the flu since. The real flu is extremely serious so please, get the shot.
