A friend of mine was going thru some of his 90 some odd old farther treasure one of many old things he collected. Do any of you folks know what this is?

it sure is one- first one I've ever seen.
ought to be for breaking loose something similar to a bead or lid, but way too small for a tire.
no idea.

I wonder could it be a bottle cap opener. Off of one of those old soda bottle coolers you would buy a bottle of soda from. shure it looks like it might be hime made.

If it were placed against a hole in a barrel top, bin or granary, and there was a seal (rope/felt) placed in the recess of the horse shoe, it would tighten to form a spout WAG Jim

my guess its a spout for maybe a old fuel tanker before hoses where used they would pour it into a large funnel then into the tank

What ever it was, it needed a lot of force, as the small tab was brazed back on after it broke. A guess. Something to do with wood wagon wheels Stan

I agree with the barrel spout. The little brazed foot fits inside the opening. The screw tightens the spout against the barrel head. Rope gasket goes in the groove. It would have to be for a barrel small enough to stand upright. You'd make a terrible mess trying to get that rigged in a barrel of molasses if you couldn't stand the barrel up. And the only way to stop the flow would be to stand the barrel up.

Just a guess that I would not have thought of if it weren't already suggested by others.

Thanks for the input. I did try running the Patton number but the third letter is illegible so I turned up a dead end on that. Thanks for the help
