was trying to upload a video of tractor lugging. need instructions. video from my pictures on computer.

2 cylinder diesels for antiques and cat powered 3406 Steigers for modern tractors. The 903 in our Versatile 950 was a close 2nd

was thinking till 1960.which was the top tractor, have pretty good idea though.

The two cylinder Deere diesel tractors. Dad had a 720 and when chopping corn silage with a two row head it would lug down untill the chopper dropped enough rpm that the silage barely made it in the wagon but would keep going and recover. Some of them would lug down to the point of an engine stall and then run backwards. That could cause damage so sometime during 720 production the cam shaft was changed to prevent it. Tom

2 cyl JD has my vote. However,my 'boss' has a case 2590 that just pulls like a locomotive. that thing is unreal. And it runs on 'fumes',too.

All the good ones will lug which equals pull/torque. MM, the IH 466DT installed in a 1066, JD big bore 2 cylinders, JI Case, etc.

well the tractors you all have listed are not luggers. john deere's yes as that is normal. and if you have a six cyl engine your out! and so is any Detroit.you want to see lugging go to u tube and punch in "mccormick wd40 pulling in Westlock" that is me pulling, even have out pulled 830 john deere.trying to get video uploaded on here.

Because you need a tractor to pull not fall on it?s
face when you hit a tough spot . Not as important
now with a poweshift and ivt transmissions but it?s
still nine to have a tractor that will pull without
constantly having to change gears

Many operators considering lugging a normal mode of operation . It is not .

Here's the link to the video on youtube. I remember my jaw darn near hitting the ground when you did that pull!

I'm not sure yet if I'll make it out to any pulls this year. Lots of stuff going down this year for me, might get a little crazy at times.

well,... because it antique tractor pulling, that short bit of lugging shows what these tractors are made of. yes I know steady lugging is not good. it weighs in at 10,000 lbs and gives everyone a good run , umm well some then. only one I cant out pull is the 660 ih. the super wd9's and 650's are not hard to beat. just showing that a 1939 tractor has no problem competing with 1950's and 60's tractors. gotta have some fun .

The other suggestion about first uploading to a Youtube account and then providing link is best way.

Directly trying to upload a video file to this site probably will not work as the file size is too big. Youtube account is free if you don;t have one.

For anybody that has looked at the pyrometer on their diesel while lugging it will find they buy a lot of turbos with the temp going to the 1200 degree figures and higher, if kept doing that for long. Those 3406 cats will pull without lugging hard.
Now the old cats like our D-4 would lug through tough spots or over the top of a hill like that W40. Those were not turboed and had to be cooled after use so the engine temperature could all equalize before shut down.
