Ford 3000 repair

Just put a new starter and
muffler on my 1970 3000. I had my
old starter rebuilt and bought a
Chinese starter on line. The shop
wanted twice as much for the same
starter I found online. They said
they could not get the new
starter as cheap as I got it (ya
right).So having my old one
rebuilt and buying a new one
online was $5 less than what they
wanted to charge me for the exact
same new starter. Next job this
weekend is putting new seals in
my steering cylinders and
replacing one line going to the
left steering cylinder. Working
on old tractors is as much fun as
driving them to me!

Yep. But I hate working on cars and trucks....odd ain't it? I love tinkering with our tractors. Have you ever rebuilt a starter? Starter on my 960 crapped out. Parts to rebuild are only about 20 bucks. I bought a new one and the old one is sitting on a shelf taunting me!

No I have never rebuilt a starter. Somethings I just leave to the pros. I am more of a parts changer than a mechanic.

Many times all a starter needs is new bushings and new brushes. I have pressed out the old bushings and turned them 180 degrees and pressed them back in. Good for another 80 thousand miles or acres!
