Spring cleaning

I made $137 at recyclers cleaning out my garages and sheds. Feels like I doubled the size of my buildings. Rusty worthless tin is bringing $125/ton. I remember in the boom years it going for $200/ton. I only had half ton of tin. Just happy to see everything gone.

I discovered my recycler takes small lead motorcycle batteries $.38/#. I was happy just to get rid of them. Thought they were worthless. I didn't know where to take them. O'Reilly's pays $10 for a car battery. Going to weigh a car battery and see if it isn't better to sell it at $.38/#.

Guess I don't need a pole barn after all.

I figured a typical 12 Volt battery weighs between 40 and 60 lbs., but I GOOGLED it for giggles.

GOGGLE says the average car battery weighs 41 pounds.

Looks like you might make out like a bandit on the $.38 a pound deal!

the last "clean out" on the farm gave me a surprise too, not only batteries but I'd an old catalytic converter of my 89 460 ford pu that had given up the ghost years ago and I got 85$ for it, wow! We used to have 5 cloth copper wires that went from the yard pole to the barn milk house, that was rolled up years ago, most of the cloth was off, but I got well over 100$ for that copper. We'd undergrounded the farm yard, so a lot of overhead wire. That was 2 years ago, but I got more for the batteries, electric motors, alum etc in the pick up bed then I received for my 24' goose piled with iron.... Well worth the time I guess is what I'm saying

I had somebody take all my old truck batteries off my hands about 2 weeks ago so I dont have to worry about what to do with them anymore....

I took my scrap in before that disappeared too.

Stan,
You are right. The only way to get rid of a battery was to trade it in as a core. That's why I was surprised to find out my recycler is buying batteries and paying $.38#. I had 3# of small motorcycle, wheelchair batteries.

Rural king has an ad buying lawn mower batteries for $4. O'Reilly's $10.

My best deal might be taking extra junk batteries to recyclers.
