I got the 88 started today and it ran away. I didnt even think about it doing this so I wasn't prepared for an emergency shutdown. I turned the fuel off so it ran wide open for at least a minute. Sure hope it didnt damage anything.
I had the control rod out. Is it possible I got it back in wrong?

(quoted from post at 17:53:56 12/31/18) Yup..
Will they run away from the governor sticking? Is there away to check it. I dont think I put the control rod in wrong but its possible. This is the first time I have ran it since I got it.

Do you mean the fuel CONTROL unit under the side cover? Does it move freely? There's a chance the governor sleeve on the camshaft end could be stuck too. Doubt the engine ran all that fast, the plunger tappet will float above 1900 RPM as the plunger return spring is not very strong.

Yes diesel tech. I removed the rectangular cover, took took the control rod out, took the timing bolts off the front so I could turn it and watch the plunger to make sure it was free. Control sleeve was down when I put it back together and it went in fairly easy. Its possible I messed up. I think it moved freely but didn't check the rod going back to the govenor.

Well I had a blonde moment. It seems to happen often. Seems I forgot to put the clip on the control rod. Thank you for your help and sorry for wasting your time. Ho Hum.

Now I'm second guessing myself again. Even though the control rod was off I think the control sleeve lever was forward which would be low rpm or off?
I better do some more checking when it warms up outside.
