Gas tractor starter motors work in deisel tractors Case

Yes, it will work. I am running a 900 diesel starter on my 700 diesel. Mounts on engine and flywheel are same.

Gene

Gas and diesel are different teeth on the gears. They will bolt to the bell housing. One way or the other the starter will kind of work, but the gars will be destroyed very quickly. The ring gear diameter is smaller on the diesel and the starter gear is larger, this makes the diesel spin faster. Diesel starters will fit all the diesel engines from the big 400 to the last of the Case engines. We cut gas flywheels down to put on diesel ring gears. I can not recall for sure if we have ever changed a torque converter from gas to diesel but I think we have.

. Starters are as generic as socks . Match the bolt pattern, rotation, number of pinion gear teeth and pinion gear pitch .
E-bay or your local starter shop will source a generic Iskra or refurbished starter .
The higher the Kw the better .
New quality cables are just as important as the starter and battery . The bargain bin at Walmart doesn’t count .
If the “ground” cable should be fastened under one of the starter mounting bolts. This reduces voltage drop.
What was on there for a starter ?
