I have always been fascinated with cotton. Seen a cotton picker come through Idaho a couple years ago and I know it was going on a boat ride because we can barely raise sweet corn here

I?m retired from John Deere DesMoines works. We built cotton pickers and cotton strippers there because the engineer that came up with the original design worked there. The first self propelled cotton picker was the model 100, in 1949.

I always heard if you think new combines are expensive you should price a new cotton picker. So I went to Deeres build a product web site--A new CP 690 lists for $950,000--The biggest Deere combine the S-790 base machine is $544,000 then you need a corn head--18 row--$177,000 also a 40 ft. draper head--$91,000--so that is $812,000 now if it is muddy you must have the track option--another $84,000 so that comes to $896,000. There is still a lot option you can get on both so the price difference is not that great. $$$$$$$$$$$ WOW---Tee

Yes I remember in the 90s successful farming had a new John Deere cotton picker and the price was 350,000$ . That?s is still a lot of money for a combine considering 4$ wheat 🌾

Local bto has 2 of them. Son is friends with one of his sons and has worked for them. I remember when he was getting started with several old used pieces of equipment.

It was likely headed for Baltimore, the largest machinery port for both inbound and outbound agricultural and construction equipment on the east coast. If you ever have an opportunity to tour the Dundalk Terminal there, it is well worth your time. What goes through there every week is amazing.
