Farmall H vs Farmall Super C

I’ve narrowed my tractor search down to either a Farmall H or a Farmall Super C. They are the same price, they are similar in condition, the tires are in similar condition, and they both run about the same.

Which one would you prefer and why?

If you are doing heavy drawbar work like tillage the H wins. If you are looking for a handy all around tractor the C wins.

I'd take the Super C any day if it had a fast hitch. Nice, nimble, super handy easy steering tractor. Think they have close to the same horse power and they got a cool sound to them. I've had mine for almost 30 years.

I have my mom's 1950 C. I have a 6 ft woods belly mower on it.
It's a Zero Turn mower. A super C may have a few more ponies vs
C.
Mine sips gas. I'd take a super C over the H because of weight.
Super C is 2845 #. Farmall H 3875#. C is about 1000# lighter,
less weight less yard damage.

I put a reese hitch on mine to pull a 10k dump trailer. A very
good combination.

I use Farmall and dump trailer to haul last years garden trash
to compost pile in gravel pit.

If you going to haul the tractor around much, I would pick the c. It's smaller and lighter than the H. If your
not, and it's just going to be at home when you get it there, I would pick the H. It is a bigger heavier tractor
and more power.

Depends on what work you are planning to use tractor for. I have driven a C and its a very
nimble tractor. Small in size and ideal for small acreages. The H has more power, larger
tires, 15 mph plus road gear and is physically bigger. If the hydraulics work on either
tractor, that's a plus. Condition of tires would be another item to look at.

Friend of mine bought a Super "C" and came to find out the only thing super about it was the decals.

Do either have implements with them? What implements are you planning on buying? If you are going to add a 3-point hitch, I would go with the H. Otherwise I would pick the C.

I have both & they each have their place. Get them both & you will find it hard to pick which one to get rid of.

He has sais he only wants to drive it around in trailes in the woods, not interested in any implements. Don't care if it has a hitch or not or a 3 point hitch or a snap coupler hitch, Just so it drives. Both are good tractors for field work, just not what an 18 year old never having driven a tractor should be thinking about driving in a woods where the limbs are likely to smack him in the face. If you are going to be driving in the woods you should have something low enough that you will go under the limbs, not at face level. I have been hit way too many a time doing work that had to be done and on a low tractor, not a tall one like the Farmal And I had a H for years, come to live with me in 49 when I was 6 years old and traded off for a bigger tractor in 84 so I know them.

My 1950 C has no water pump and a magneto. The super C has a water pump and a coil. Some super C's may have a 2 pt. Not sure if that's an aftermarket 2 pt.

Both are good tractors, but depending on your woods, angle of slopes and lengths and you experience level, a tractor in the woods and be very dangerous.

Regardless of what decal was put on the tractor, you can tell at a glance if it's a super C. If you can see light under the gas tank it is a super. The Super C has a taller radiator which results in about 2" space under the gas tank.

Well, I guess my previous statement about driving through the woods might not be entirely accurate. Mainly I’ll be driving it along a gravel road and just going a few yards into the woods every once in a while to pullout some wood or something. It’ll mainly be a gravel road and paved road tractor, with the occasional foray into the woods, no trails or anything like that where branches could be a major issue.

What’s the value of a Farmall H vs Farmall Super C? I would never really consider selling the tractor, but it would be nice to know what it would be worth if I fix it up nicely, give it a fresh coat of paint, etc.

The H is worth about 1500 here in really nice shape and new/near new rubber. Here the Super C being smaller they bring a little more from collectors but only because they are easier to store and haul to shows.

You will find that the guys restoring tractors are doing it out of a labor of love. Darn sure isn't any money in it for the most part. Very easy to spend 1,000 buying one, then dump another 5 or 6 thousand into a nice restoration and own a tractor with a fair market value of say 1500.

Thanks! Like I said, I have no intention of ever selling the tractor if I buy it - I see it as a collector’s item. It will be purely a labor of love for me...
