New LED headlights

Am I the only one that has to fight the urge to slap a little less than 20% of the drivers on the road these days while driving at night?!! It sure seems to be out of control.

I have heard it is because brightness is regulated by candlepower and LED’s are rated by watts?

How about those LED tail lights? Ever had the urge to just blindly floor it while literally seeing red spots everytime you blink?

That’s just the new vehicles..don’t get me started on the jokers that have just enough mechanical know how to “upgrade” their headlights, yet not a clue that they are easily adjustable!!

Worse part of it is, when you flash your brights at them, they turn on a 100 watt off-road light bar that is nested in their grill, which totally defeats any sense of revenge.

The Police used to give tickets for not dimming, flashed my lights at an oncoming car last week....it was the Police! They don't even dim their lights

I have a different gripe about the LED tail lights. My wife's mazda 3 hatchback was the fancy model so it has factory LED taillights... well, one of the circuit boards or whatever went bad on one and you cannot open them to fix the board or replace LEDs. So you have to buy a whole new taillight assembly. The absolute cheapest one I have found is $115 per side. If it was a traditional bulb assembly it would cost under $5 for a 2 pack of bulbs and a little wire brushing the socket and off n running! New tech is not always a good thing.

No, you are not alone in this complaint. I experience the same thing every time I'm on the road at night.

The tail lights don't bother me, it's the blinding headlights, both oncoming and behind.

It appears there is no longer any enforcement of headlight regulations or failure to dim.

Displaying any retaliation is a good way to provoke even worse behavior! When someone fails to dim oncoming, I just try to not look directly into the lights, find some ground reference, like the lane marking stripe until it gets by. When one gets behind me I will gently slow down, move to the right, and make them go around me.

In the meantime, the most effective measure we can take is to write to your local House Representative.

Usually the most effective way to get a message through is to fax or mail a hand written letter. Keep it short, polite, and to the point, make it look acceptable.

Here is some how-to info:

I hate those new white/blue headlights too. And
have wondered to myself, how stupid is it to have
the on coming traffic blinded by your headlights to
the point they have to divert their attention, and
possibly collide with you?

The off road lights are for off road use only.
You can't even have two sets of fog lights on at the same time
here in Michigan. I got pulled over for exactly that once, even
though they were aimed correctly. Since they were aimed correctly,
I only got a warning, but I took them off that truck anyway.

My new truck has the factory LED headlights.
They automatically dim when approaching another vehicle, be it
from the rear or on coming. No one has flashed their brights at
me since I bought it and that was 10 months ago or so.
I have more complaints about the DIY LED lights than factory ones.

i have a 2014 chevy cruze I bought a year ago, when im going down the road, I have a lot of people trying to get me to dim my lights when they are dimmed, don't know why, gets frusterating

Some are worse than others. Occasionally you see a car with really effective headlights, but they are not annoying.

It’s not so much that they are running high beams as it is they are just annoyingly bright- blinding. Brother has a newer Honda Accord and the daytime running lights (those little brows under the headlight) make me shield my eyes at dusk.

Buy the night time visor and or the driving glasses. They will be cheaper than your desire to retaliate.

I don't like the blinding headlights either... UNFORTUNATELY our newer car has them.

And when I'm driving at night, I very frequently get high beams flashed at me (which is illegal to do in MN)... And sheesh, I hate it when people do it right as they are AT my car... effectively blinding me.

It's illegal to remind someone to dim their headlights? How about if you just leave you brights on also? Is that more illegal than what the other driver is doing?

Brightest lights wins.
Period.
It's the trend.
even with new cataract free vision

I tried 2-3 different pr of led inserts to my H4's
must of been bright because I got flashed on lows bad. They just wouldn't cutoff at the right height
I like silverstars

My new car has them. I have the auto hi/low beam feature turned on so I don't forget to put the low beams on. I've never had someone flash hi beams at me.

I think it all how your Lights are aimed at the factory.

There is a factory in Paris, Ill that makes LED's for cars. Person who works there says they cost upwards of $6-800. You don't buy a bulb, you have to buy the complete light fixture for new cars.

Has anyone had to buy the complete fixture?

Never heard of that law in Texas. You get blinded you flash, flash again if necessary, and if they want to be stubborn, show them what it's like....usually gets the desired result.......gotta pull them away from their texting first.

While we are on a light rant, how about those stupid things with the little round lense hootus. How do you get side vision with those things? You know being able to see 180 degrees around the front of the vehicle, especially necessary when turning allowing you to see where you are going. I was out before daylight this morning and enjoyed my '11 Silverado with 4 conventional type bulbs.....nice bright view all around. Low beam was all you needed for the most part.

Every year when I go back to the dealer for my annual Tx Veh. Inspection (I trust him...mom and pop shop), the dealer comes up to me and tries to talk me out of it for one of his new ones.....my reply is something line "what, and put up with those stupid head lights".

Still on lights, I noticed that most every car that passed me had head lights and driving lights........4 eyeballs staring at you when 2 did just fine for decades.....geez. Glad I'm retired and don't have to put up with that crap. Wonder why your new carriage lists for $50k?

The bright side....vehicle inspections.....before the state mandated smog testing, remember every inspection you had found your head lights had mysteriously become out of alignment....for an additional fee. At least that's gone.

I very rarely see someone who fails to dim. My headlight peeve is driving without them on. "So what if no one can see me? I can see where I am going."

How do you do that when even the eye Dr does not have a clue about how to do that. If you don't need glasses otherwise then you can buy something that is supposed to help BUT NO HELP IS AVAIBLE IF YOU WEAR BY OR TRY FOCALS.

For me I try to dim when I know the oncomming vehical can see me do it but a lot of time I have to stay on dim. What gets me is when I am driving on dim as well as the oncomming vehicle and when it gets to 25 ft to 100 feet in front of me they switch to bright and it is right in your face when theu do it. It is not just a rare time it happens but seems like it is about every night I am out. They need to just wait that 2 seconds to go back to brights.

My wife's newer car has VERY bright headlights. However, when you dim them they dont blind anyone. Seems to be a big difference from factory headlights and aftermarket. The factory engineered/designed headlights seem to dim as they should. The aftermarket ones- not so much.

I had cars flashing their lights at me when I drove our 08 Toyota van since the van was new. Three years ago I smacked a deer with the van wiping out a headlight and after it came home from the body shop cars weren’t flashing at me anymore. The lights must have been aimed too high from the factory and the body shop reaimed them properly.

We had an incident a couple of years ago here in central Michigan where a young man flashed his lights at a car to get him to dim the lights but it turned out the bright lights were on a deputy sheriff's car. The deputy sheriff pulled the young man over for giving the deputy his brights. A disagreement between the two ensued and the cop shot the young man dead. You can only imagine the turmoil that caused.

The incentive to obey law enforcement these days is the death penalty. Kind of odd to hear myself say that, but it is routinely true. Kind of makes me think they need to undergo intensive hand to hand combat training instead of simply shooting ## of rounds at the shooting range each month.

Leroy you need to et your headlights aimed.

Cannot move that fast, In the distance they are the dimmer does not work that fast either.

Leroy getting headlights aimed is done at the inspection station not on the road.

I don'r know how yours works but my lever only takes a slight nudge rearward to flash my brights (Instant results) but to put them on to stay I have to push forward. Easy peasy.
