Battery Thread Size

But the best favor you can do yourself is to chit can those 'bad ideas' . Even GM finally saw the light and went back to good old top post like the rest of the world. Guess they had to wait long enough for the "bad idea" designer/promoter to either retire or die?

(quoted from post at 12:09:43 12/14/18) Does anyone know the size of the threads on a 12V side post car battery? Are they US or metric or something different?

Like Bob said they are 3/8 NC.

If you are asking I am guessing you plan to use a bolt to replace a factory threaded lug.

If you do then use a long 3/8 bolt (say 1 inch) and screw a nut onto it.

Thread the bolt into the battery no more than finger tight then use two wrenches, one to keep the bolt from turning and the second one to tighten the nut up.

If you screw a bolt into the battery and tighten it down odds are real good you will pull the threads out of the soft lead.

Yep. 2018

My horn stopped working (a necessary item here in Houston) and I bought some new (louder) ones with an independent wiring harness. I don't really want to mess with the current main harness and was just going to screw a bolt with some nuts to make everything work, hence needing the threads.

I just found those on amazon earlier today and they are on the way. Thanks, everyone for the input.

I used a 3/8 bolt and nut to tighten..

I had a short in dump trailer wiring. Wire was about a half inch too short.
