thanks for all your replys on 400 is there casting numberon block or some other way to know what engine i have
 
You should go down to the case forum, those folks are better informed than me. But if you know the engine is original to the tractor you can tell by the PTO and steering column. The regular 400 with 4" bore did not have a PTO brake, so the lever just pulls back and pushes down and the PTO will coast while the engine runs. When they went to the super they added the PTO brake so the lever will have a spring loaded flipper that holds it down so the brake holds. The steering column will also have the tab for the com lever on the left side as they were planning on the 7/800 coming. If your not sure the engine is original you can get the engine serial number and ask on the case page, someone there will know.
