520 John Deere oil issues

Hey guys have posted on this before, my 520 is letting engine oil into the transmission. I understand there is a seal behind the pulley on the right hand side that might be the problem. Getting to it seems to be beyond my pay grade, any suggestions or know of anyone out in Colorado who might work on this? John Deere out here does not work on two bangers.
Thanks.

First get a good repair and parts manuals Pulling the clutch parts on some of them can be a bugger.

The "Seal" on that 520 clutch is really only a rotating screw thread that draws oil back in, nothing touches..!

Could it possibly be the Rt Main Brg Seal.?

I believe the 1st reduction on a 520 has transmission oil in it...

The Older JD "B" tractors had Engine oil in the 1st reduction..

I'm near Pueblo there's a one man shop in Avondale that works on the old tractors. Not fast but reasonable on the price. I would think you could find an small shop around you that can help you.

Jocco, how will a manual help him to find a repair shop?

It will help him understand his problem and once he understands what it is and what it will take then he can adaquatly describe the problem when talking to someone to be able to find someone that can do the job IF he decides he cannot do it. As others have said where he thinks a seal is bad there is no seal so has to figure out exactly what his problem is and then find a shop if required. I don't know that tractor so cannot help him, My experiance was with a 49 B and a 51 A years ago and if I remember we did have that arera apart and at that time there was nothing avaible to guide us. Before internet or computors. So with all help avaible he may just decide he can do things himself if his body will allow that. Me I am beyond the body allowing something like that.

If it’s like a 630 there is a lip seal in the housing that holds the main right hand crankshaft bearing. The seal is not all that hard to access with simple tools and some time. However, it’s a tossup on whether the owner should tackle the job. If the owner takes it apart himself and finds a hard dried out worn seal with everything else OK he has an easy job. If he finds the crank loose in the bushing the job quickly turns into more of a professional endeavor.

Leroy the owner tells us that he has decided that this is "beyond his pay grade" so he is looking for a shop. He was not asking for help with diagnostics.

He NEEDS to KNOW that information BEFORE he talks to a shop to know if they can handle the job.

Any shop that he calls that does not know how oil can get from the motor to the transmission is not the shop that he wants to take it to, LOL. Simple

Thanks guys, getting a lot of input, talked with a couple men who think they can repair this, but no sure answers yet.
One individual said it would be necessary to split the tractor, others seem to think a seal on either side of the crank shaft
might be the cause.
