Anyone want a job?

Outside without cover, don't know prior condition of tractor, if it ever ran. From the pic, way more than 10 hours work with no power tools. Guy must be a car dealership owner, wants people to work for peanuts in poor conditions and tell them how many hours he'll pay. Plus having to drive to where it is. I think that $150 will be in his pocket for a long time to come. He needs to step into the 21st century on his pay. I'll stay in my nice warm shop and make 4 times that each day, and the work comes to me.

I'm a kind hearted person and wonder if it's some elderly guy who has gotten ill and can't put it back together. Also may not have much money and that's all he can afford. I wish I was closer and was good at working on old tractors! Lol.

Agree. I helped my neighbor work on his old MF and get it running. Didn't ask for a dime. One time his horses did a number on his wiring. They eat the spark plugs wires. Removed them from tractor. Eat his seat too. He had no clue how to figure out how to replace them.

(quoted from post at 08:14:47 12/11/18) I was surfing Indy's craigslist. Not my ad.
Do you think this person is realistic, $150?
help wanted

For all I know the ad could be legitimate and the owner may have incurred an injury or something preventing him from finishing the project.

The other side of my mind says;

Translation ;

Help I embarked on a two can rebuild and ran out of paint.

By the time I got back from buying more rattle cans I kind of forgot where all the things I took off go.

It only took me 30 hours to take it apart and I do not know what I am doing so surely someone who knows how to use wrenchy thingys can put it back together in half the time it took me seeing as I already have spent 40 hours putting the hard stuff back together.

The guy I bought it from said it was running when it was parked so how hard can it be, he gave me a few 5 gal pails of parts with it.
I can't see where any of them would go so I think I may have lots of extras, maybe I can trade them for your labor.

He also said something about being positive that Jennie ground something on the 12 bolt battery, I am guessing Jennie was probably the horse he had in the yard while I was there.
I can not see 12 bolts on the battery, maybe they are in the pail I am sure you can figure it out.

I found a loader for it, the guy selling the loader said it will fit on any tractor with a little work.
So being the generous person I am, I figure 1 hour is a little work, so I added 2 hours to my offer to cover any small problems you may run into.

I was told I would need a pump and control to lift the loader but I already solved that problem.
I had a heck of a time taking the loader apart so I could lift it one piece at a time into my BMW to get it home but at least that is done.
And I controlled it from falling off the roof with 3 bungee cords, it was a little scary on the freeway so I bought 6 more bungee cords to better control it on the tractor.
It is all here somewhere freshly painted and ready to go.

I really need to get this tractor running as I have promised my wife I would build a new driveway, dig a pond for the birdys, till the garden and level our 2.3 acre Ranch so we can seed grass for the pony we are going to buy for little Tracy when she turns 6 this fall.

I see WAY more than 10 hours work there!

And who would do that kind of work for $15 hr this day and age, other than the owner? LOL

This could go several different ways, maybe the owner died or got sick, can't finish it.

Maybe he was so difficult to deal with whoever started it walked.

Maybe whoever started it abandoned the job or got fired.

Be a shame to see it go to scrap at this stage, if I was three and had the time I might try to help, depends on the situation.

It?s so open ended, what does the loader look like, and does the tractor run, a person just can?t walk up and be on the hook for all that for $150 total.

As a hobby to help a fella that?s in over his head spending 2 afternoons on it with him for $150 (or maybe for beverage and cookies only...) wouldn?t be a bad deal, but it appears the assumption is it will all run and work and be good for $150 of labor, you are on the hook until it works loader and all.

Yikes.

Paul

(Was going to attach a screen clip of it, but I havent quite figured the new photo options yet, sometimes works sometimes doesn?t.....)

A few years ago I responded to a craigslist ad. Two brothers needed help getting generator to work on a TO 20. He was only 2 miles away. Didn't take long for me to figure out the needed VR. They raised Mums. I got paid with Mums.

I could see more than ten hours of time for just hunting for all the parts and identifying them. What happens when some parts can't be found or need to be repaired/replaced?

What would be a reasonable price to sell it as-is for parts or a project tractor, $800 maximum?

To be even close to realistic, he would have to double his hourly rate. Even so, like others have said, there is way more than 10 hours worth of work there.

Someone should copy the web link for this discussion thread and email it to the seller. Then something good might come of the whole thing ....

Last mechanic work I did I was paid 25 an hour. That was back in 99/00. Today? Basket case? $50 an hour with no promises. That's because I hate basket cases.

Might also be someone who knows nothing about tractors At all and someone told him it should only take ten hours to do the job

A guy called me a few yrs ago to come to his residence to work on his 8N. What a mess he had, tools, etc all over the floor. I tightened up the ign. switch in the hole and left. haven't been paid yet, but that is ok as I probably would not have gotten paid had I done all the work that it needed.

The contact information button won't work. Could be a clue. But, my deal would be I'd give him $1000 for the tractor and everything that goes with it. Then I'd complete the build until satisfied with it then sell it back to the owner I bought it from for $5000.

Probably take more than 10 hours just to find the major parts, let alone all the bolts and screws. I can burn burgers at McDonalds for $15 an hour, no skill or tools required.

I?m sure glad I?m not one of those guys who won?t get out of bed for 15$ an hour I?d never get out of bed I guess
