Heres my story,,,,stopped in to say hello. She was kind of mad.
She got rid of all her chickens,,it was getting too much for her to take care of them. There were 5 old roosters still running around the yard.
She asked everyone,,no
one had time to come get them for free. One person said they wanted them,,so she and her grandson penned them up.
The person never showed up to get them.
That day I Visited,,she said,,Im going to ask my grandson to shoot them and throw them in the pile.
I said,,why dont we pluck them? She said,,I would love too,,but believe it or not,,I Cant bring myself to chop the heads off.I like doing all the rest,,,so///I took care of the head chopping,,and she and I Spent some priceless time,,and it was the last chickens she ever did in the little butcher shop she spent her whole life working in every fall.

Larry,

I love the PA Grandma stories. It's neat that you have all these photos to look at and remember those times with her.

Reviewing old photos as you indicated yesterday, can make one sad. It does me as I look at the Grandchildren photos when Grandma and I were a central part of their lives. It was such a great time, we're sad because those times are gone forever. Children grow their world becomes larger and Granny and Papa are kind of crowded out by other things. We like you have had Senior friends and relatives who brought a lot of joy to our lives, they are gone also and its sad. But those times were joyous, why all of a sudden do they make us sad? Only because we loved we laughed we enjoyed those times and we can't get them back. Aren't we glad we had those moments. Think of what life could have been, but we had those joyous moments. Be happy my friend, we have this moment, today. Don't be sad, be glad for the wonderful life you have. gobble

Grandma sure doesn't look mad in that picture !

I imagine her mood changed about the same time you showed up. Look at that grin !

I could picture her watching out the shed window, saying to herself, "Look at that crazy fool out there trying to catch those roosters in my yard." I bet she was laughing at you. Good job on making her happy.

You know, Larry, I keep coming back to this site because you keep posting! A lot of your posts are helping somebody, and they are a good reminder of what I ought to be doing more of. You don't do any preaching
at all, you just go out and get it done.(with a few photos). Thanks for all you do. I'll try to keep up!

Was visiting grandma-pa one Sunday. Was after Christmas and I had a new hatchet from Christmas. We went out to the pen and she selected a big
fat one and after a chase I caught it and laid it's head on the chopping block.....aka Daniel Boone. Really made my day as a young tyke of probably
about 10.

Then the hard part......the dipping and plucking. She finished it up in time to fry it for for supper.....sure is a lot of work when you can go to the
grocery store. But the eating part.....yes sir.
