Some of you Kentucky guys. If you are a Sturgis KY and want to go out of Ky at Shawneetown do you run up KY 109 or stay on US 60 up to Morganfield the out . Guess my question is how is hwy 109, traveling in a pickup.

I don't know anything about KY roads but I always use Google maps to check routs first before traveling. Google says 109 is way shorter and quicker, but if it's mountainous and the weather is bad that can affect travel time. Many states like MN have roadside cameras and weather stations that you can look at online to get an idea of road conditions. There is one that looks right at the driveway where my father grew up!

KY 109 is a beautiful drive! You can drive it with any truck or trailer. You might notice several abandoned silos that were the mainstay of beef cattle operations years ago. Most everything is grain farming now. Enjoy! Don

Thanks Russ I had already looked and knew it was shorter but wanted first hand up to date information and as usual this site came thru... Thanks all, Mid Ill here I come.

109 not bad road sometime lot traffic and it has lot corners it a good 55 to 60 mile hr road though some think it a supper hwy.. i live about 15 miles north of hopkinsville closes to the pennyrile state park

I have done some business with a Ben Brown right in that area, maybe you or your father? How far are you from Charles Oates, or the Oats farm, fellow that deals in all the toy tractors?

109 is a more direct route from Sturgis to Shawneetown, Illinois. It is also the designated truck route. From Morganfield, you travel hwy 56. The state is in the process if widening, and repaving it. So far they are only a few miles out, the rest of 56 is curvy and hilly.

Sorry for the OT hijack. My sister passed away 2 years ago from cancer. Her, her husband and daughter lived about 5 hrs. from most all of our family. In preparation for her funeral I googled directions and went to the satellite image to find at the street view my sister walking on the sidewalk in front of her house. She had inadvertently walked out as the google camera vehicle was passing by. I sent the link to several of our family for directions and instructed them to go to the street view.
It was like we just got another look at her before she was so sick.
