Am wondering if there is anyone on here with info about Massey 90 tractors. Have a line on one for sale, stating 'in working condition', for $800. Are they about 60-70 hp, and do they usually come with 3 pt. hitches? The photos are frontal, left and right sides. Looks like most of the tin is still there. It is about a 5 hr drive to go look at it, but if it runs for $800.....

Had a neighbor who bought a Super 90 diesel new. He pulled 5x14s semi mounted with it. Those people could ruin an anvil with a tack hammer. When they had the auction in 1987,that Super 90 was the only tractor that was still usable. He bought a gas version in the 70s,but it never could hold a candle to the diesel for power. I don't remember what they ever traded that one for,but it was only there for a few years. It might have got traded along with the Deutz 100-06 on that new Allis 7000,I don't recall for sure. I always thought if a person wanted a general, all around chore tractor, that Super 90 diesel would be a good one to have. They must be one heck of a tractor for one to stand up like that one did.

Big problem with the Super 90 is parts. I had one years ago and sold it because parts where hard to come by

Anything that size in working condition (which does leave a lot open for interpretation) is a good deal at 800 dollars, but old is right, some parts are scarce.

It's basically a Massey 85 (I have an 85) with a Perkins A4-300 engine. A good strong solid tractor. The engine is nearly impossible to get parts for, kinda an orphan engine. It should have a three point, most do. Poor hydraulics, they run the three point good. but the same pump is used for remotes and is slow.
If it was next door for $800 and it ran good, not much of an oil burner. I'd get it. But five hours away? .....

If it's a Western model it won't have a three point. Diesel stock is 68 PTO HP, gas around 61 HP. Straight eight speed is more desirable than the sixteen speed Multi-Power transmission, for both drivability and parts availability. Came in both Standard and Row crop versions as well as Western.

Depends where you buy it from. Up in canada it is unheard of to find a Super 90 with 3 point. They are all wheatland models like mine. A good solid engine in that 300 Perkins. Has a bit of weakness for head gaskets. I've had to replace one and get the head planed in the 20+ years I've had it but that tractor had a whole lot of hours before I got it. Very easy on fuel and starts on one turn of the starter most of the time. I use mine year round on the front end loader, hay rake, etc. Can't comment on how hard it is to get parts because I haven't needed any other than the head gasket and a few incidentals with that job. For $800 its worth it in parts to sell.
Got some video of mine starting and handling bales at -25F.
Super 90

Forgot to mention that one weak point is the auxiliary hydrualic pump that runs the power steering and keeps the pto engaged. Mine has been weak for the past 20 years making it pretty near useless for pto work as the pto will slip when I turn the steering wheel. Steering is still ok but it really needs that pump replaced (if its avaialble). And that will likely cost more than $800.

Thanx all for all the info. I presently have a Massey 265, with fel and 3 pt hitch. I was looking at this 90 model as a possible 2nd tractor for haying and such. I would need the other tractor to have a 3 pt. as my rake, and a lot of my other equipment (plows, Rotovator, discs, etc) are that style, and it would be nice having the option of a second tractor when needed.
Think I will let this one pass, as mentioned by others, parts might be hard to come by.
Thanx again

Like you said, next door.... Also thinking like others said, parts could be an issue too. I was considering it as a second tractor, but the pics I saw of it looked like it had been rode hard and put away wet. Thinking I'll pass on it for now
