Larry, I agree. I get so frustrated when I think about how Christmas is commercialized.
That is not what it is about.

We decided about 10 years ago that our family got anything and everything it wanted or needed all year long so we don't buy Christmas presents. We decorate and play Christmas music and love the reason for the season, but no big gifts. We will put a couple things in the stockings, but if you ask anyone in our family they can't think of anything they need or want. Truly blessed and happy.

We coopted the winter solstice celebration from European pagans. Part of that was gift giving. Some one decided it made sense to continue that tradition in remembrance of the greatest gift ever, Salvation which can only be received as a gift through Christ who paid the price for our sins.

(quoted from post at 09:08:54 12/09/18) And it shouldnt be!Christmas should not be about store bought presents!
Me and my family agree with you. A few years ago we decided to not give store bought presents, so now we draw names and give homemade gifts. This year my daughter is getting a large sunflower made from railroad spikes. I got bunches of them just waiting become something else.
We've had a lot of fun doing this, get's the little ones trying to dream up fun presents to make. We have not been disappointed in our decision.

A few years ago my daughter had a good idea. She suggested we get gifts that we would have wanted as kids. That was fun, even interesting when it come down to what the kids got for each other. The wife and I found out that there had been some things going on that we didn't even know about. They got a lot of laughs out of it anyway.
