480 E backhoe, foot moves up slow.

I have a 480E Case backhoe. The right Foot goes down fast, but just barely comes up. Feet will hold Hoe up for hours, takes a week to leak down 6". Hoe has a new hyd pump. Everything else works fast. Seems like valve just barely moves and is tight when I pull lever to raise. Valve goes in to raise foot. It is not the linkage. I have even pried on valve with a bar just moves a 1/4" or so. Thanks for any ideas.

Look for debris between the control valve body assembly and the protective sheet metal cover. Sometimes a twig or stick will get in there and keep you from getting full range of motion. I?d start off by cleaning everything up in that area.

Might have to overhaul the o-rings in that valve body.
It?s not terribly difficult or expensive. Just make sure you get viton o-rings.made for hydraulics not the ones you get at the hardware store.

I?m sure there is a kit available.

does the linkage from the control lever go directly to the valve body or is it pilot controlled , this would be a big help in finding your problem

Thanks It has direct linkage. I've got the cover off. Tried to clean crap from top of valve. There were branches in there. Valve is really hard to get to. Behind the other four.

Take the valve apart. Probably something inside the spool restricting the movement, or a broken return spring has turned sideways.

Be very careful getting the spool out of the valve. If something is blocking it, try to remove whatever is stopping it, don't force it. The clearances are very tight, any nicks or deformation will cause the spool to stick or leak by.
