hello all--does a standard 2'' 60 0 60 dash mount amp gauge care if its 12 or 24v [except for backlight}? was researching vdo brand, shows some require shunt for 24v. however parts store shows same brand as 12/24 in description. sounds like either?

The voltage will change the reading a tiny bit but shouldn't be much. Most of those gauges are actually 2 1/8 inches. Just being technical. Cruise around Ebay. There are all kinds of gauges on there. As you said, change the light bulb. By the way..there are even tractor specific gauges. Here is a set on Ebay for John Deere early tractors. Look up 141807503471. Have fun.

thanks jeffcat--kinda looked like they changed fitment for both voltage. that original write-up was kinda old.

The only reason it would need a shunt would be to divert some of the current away from the meter, something that would be needed for a high amp alternator.

The voltage would not be a factor except for the indicator lamp, if equipped.

One thing to be aware of, most automotive gauges are not weather and dust resistant. If this is an open cab and gets real world use, it needs to be sealed against the elements.
