1999 Ford F-350 Air Conditioning

Had A.C work done earlier in the summer, Now when I have the heater going, I notice the air conditioning compressor coming on & off (short cycling) Is this normal I never notice it before? Could I have a bad selector switch. Thanks Dave F.

Maybe your charge is a little low. Enough to allow the compressor to engage but as the high side builds pressure the low side drops enough for it to cut out. I've had this happen on older stuff.

Defrost and Def/floor mix settings will run the a/c compressor, since its cold you will notice a shorter on/off cycle. The reason they use the a/c comp is it can quickly dry the air out by removing water/moisture from the air, it helps keep the glass from fogging up.

I have a 2005 Ranger that I've had for 2 1/2 years. I noticed the AC cycled in any position accept the vent position. While I don't think this is right, I'm not going to replace parts to figure it out. I just disconnect the compressor in the winter. My old vehicles defrosted just fine without AC.

Yes but the AC cycling through the winter keeps everything in the AC system working and lubricated rather than it sitting idle all winter and then finding seized compressors or dried out O rings or seals leaking when you want to use it.
