I have John Deere MT that at times the steering just sticks and will not turn then after rocking the steering wheel back and forth it will turn a little then work ok til the next episode any ideas have looked at bearings they seam good

Two things act that way a broken tooth on a steering gear, and a ball/roller bearing that is getting jammed. At this point stay under 20 Mph (kidding) Jim

You may need the tapered "pins" that engage the steering gear in the box. Not a tough job and the parts are cheap. There is also a splined coupler in the vertical shaft going down to the wheels that gets worn but that doesn't cause a lock up....just causes wobbling. Now THAT part ain't cheap.

I had the same problem with our M, I suspect one of the gears was worn. I changed the grease in the
gearbox and it made it better,I sold the M! Maybe there is an adjustment?

Thank you I will look at all ideas except 20 mph and selling tractor
Also have checked grease but not other things

One other thing...
If your steering gear box is not leaking...you're lucky. The book indicates gear oil and not grease. Be careful with those seals. Mine was leaking. Could not see any shaft damaged but could not get the new seals (twice replaced) to quit leaking. Upon suggestion, I got rid of the gear oil and lubed it up good with corn-head grease. No leaks and so good so far.

Thank you I will remember that and all of the suggestions given
