Honestly, the prices sound in line for what is going on at present. A good 71XX Magnum is around 30,000 dollars and if the power shift on the tractor you saw needs work that could eat 15-20 thousand dollars or more that is what the new owner will have invested given the auction sale price. Guys are being far more conservative on tractors with commodity prices down. Guys that are looking for 86 series tractors are not big spenders so forget bidding close to what new retail was. Same with JD 50 series large frame row crops i.e. 4850. The New Holland discbine might have brought more if it was 1000 RPM drive. In a lot of areas moldboard plows bring scrap metal price. All in all it's a different world on equipment prices versus a few years ago.

What kind of a goat rodeo auction outfit was this that announces major mechanical issues in the middle of selling an item?

I'd think any serious buyer would be real skittish after that stunt wondering what this outfit wasn't' telling them.

??didn't think they were that bad. I shady Auctioneer would have kept right on going and not said a word so i give them credit for that.

the owner was sitting in the truck cap (typical auctioneer cap on the back of a pickup they sit in and sell from) as it was nasty out and he isn't very mobile with parkinson's disease so i suspect the owner said something about it to the auctioneer during the bidding and he was honest and made the announcement and was fair and started over.

so i wouldn't blame the auctioneer as he wouldn't know and give him credit for honesty. i thought it still brought good $ for as rough as the 86's and the 100 hyrdo looked.

on the other hand, they did not do a good job promoting it. he's in the 1990's as far as tech (using website) goes.

NOTE: i only posted these prices for information as some guys post things on occasion. was not implying anything otherwise weather things were high or low. i would say i figured worse based on the weather. about as nasty a day as you could get for an auction. 32deg with wind and rain

Grouse, an auctioneer that stopped bidding due to new information and started over would certainly have my repect.

Out of all things the Oliver plow caught my attention. Hat really seemed low. Inread your post about not saying things were high or low, but if they were decent and needed some parts that was dirt cheap. We bought a set of Oliver spring reset plows, 3-16's maybe 10 years ago. Had to give 1800 for them, but they were nice. Oliver/ White/Ford plows bring pretty good money around here. We paid more for the Oliver plow than what an IH 6 bottom toggle trip plow sold for. It was nice too ! Thanks for the info !

south central Michigan. i live about 5 miles south of the MI border so it wasn't too far.

that is actually why my buddy and i went to the auction. but looking around, depending on what was wrong with the motor you could spend a TON of $ trying to get that orphan Romanian motor going so we had a $200 top price. it started at $200. nearly new rear tires, fronts were shot, it had been sitting long enough the tires were green. hydraulic system had been cobbled up with a remote spool valve instead of the factor valve/lever bolted to the fender.

was probably worth $250 for scrap and then sell the rear tires for whatever you could get IF the motor was too far gone.

on a side note i should have bid on a PTO on one of the wagons and one of the hay wagons that sold for $150.
