Hello all.. Would like to ask the Jubilee owners out there what degree thermostat are you guys
running? I fired mine up after engine rebuild new water pump new 160 thermostat and new gauge. When
running the temp.needle is erratic and only gets into the green at idle when i bring the rpm.up the
needle goes back into the yellow. You guys think i need a hotter stat.or am i missing something
here..Thanks...

hotter thermostats cause the temp difference between the radiator and the air passing through it to be greater. This takes out more heat than if it were colder. The engine will run more efficiently when warmer as well. 180 is just fine. Jim

I ran a 160 thermostat in my 57 Ford 640 (same engine as Jubilee) for a while, but in the winter the engine temp was around 140 at best. Replaced with a 180 t-stat . Depending how cold it gets in your area, you may want to cover up the radiator in the winter to keep the coolant from losing heat in really cold temps.

A few thoughts about your tractor. Since you just rebuilt the engine and replaced the water pump and T-stat, you may have some air in the cooling system which might explain the erratic gauge movement. Check your coolant level to make sure it is full, but not over full. Should cover the core in the radiator, but not to the top of the tank. Also try removing the radiator cap (Very Carefully) with engine running to see if you have bubbles or steam present. Hopefully not, this could indicate a leaking head gasket.

thanks for your thoughts i think ill try a hotter stat.my tractors are used year around but primarily in the summer. NW Ohio..
