Hydraulic breakaway coupler

JD 4230 dual remote couplers. Each remote has two barrels. On either one, (standing behind the tractor facing forward) which is the pressure side and which is the return side? Left barrel is? Right barrel is?

Depends on which way you move the lever. Both of them are supply and return. Pulling lever back puts pressure to left barrel. Pushing forward puts pressure to right barrel.

You're indicateing it only has 'oneway' hydraulics. Not so. Either side can be pressure, either side can be return. Just depends upon which you push/pull the handle.I like to hook up so pulling back raises, pushing forward lowers.

And I prefer the oposite as I grew up with hand lift and that you push forward to lift and pull back to drop. The JD 2 cylinder with a lift was always forward to lift and back droped implement mounted with gravity. And remember the cylinder has to have 2 hoses on it to work.

But then the tractor has to be capable of using the single action and is that tractor capable of being set for that, I dought it.

My 4255 & the 4240 I had before it with very similar breakaways will operate a one way cylinder just fine with no adjustment required so IIRC the one way cylinder will operate correctly on a 4230

If you are wanting to operate a one hose..one way cylinder on a 30 series there is a plastic detent iin the front of the remote lever that flips up and allows the lever to go forward to the float position. When you move the lever there a single action cylinder will then lower under gravity. If for some reason you are used to Case tractors a John Deere and most other brands pair the couplers close together for one remote, not side to side like a Case. If this doesn?t answer your question tell us what you are trying to do that brought on this question.

Pressure will depend on which way you move the lever. So for a single acting cylinder just plug it in and try it. No need for change or adjusting for it on the tractor. Just use it.
