Youtube said I wasn't to have any AC or DC volts. I measured 0 vac and -46 v DC reading and had to reverse polarity.

With modem unplugged stress was about 10. When I plugged moden back in, meter made a sound similar to the sound you would hear on radio when this a test from the Emergency Broadcast service. Stress level jumped to 40. I'm guessing it's because the sound modem makes when it receiving digital information.

Now what do you make of the last pic?

What's your diagnosis of my situation? Any suggestions of other test I should run?

Thanks for your help.

Go to your earlier post. I answered some of your questions there. All your testing should be done with the modem disconnected. The reading your getting when you plug the modem in is perfectly normal and just indicated the modem is working. Yes the sound you hear when you plug the modem in is it making an audible tone you can hear through the meter as it tries to go into sync with the equipment in the central office.

Is the last pic with the modem unplugged? If it is then it suggests you have a short on the line which would go along with a stress reading of 10. The harder the short is the lower the stress reading is likely to be. If you took that reading with the modem plugged in than it indicates nothing. unplug the modem and test again. Hard trouble like short, grounds, or open are relatively easy to isolate once you get the hang of the meter.

With the modem unplugged go to the interface box and disconnect the incoming wire. Retest which wire had the short on it? If its on your side of the interface disconnect the house wires one at a time till you find the one with the trouble. If its on the phone company side theres not much more you can do except call them.

Thanks for your help. I'll run some more tests tomorrow. Still trying understand what I'm doing.

Your welcome Glad to help. Ill try to check the posts tomorrow to see if you put anything up. Learning the meter is the hardest part. Good luck

I think I'll wait for DSL to fail. Unplug modem and start making measurements. This house has two interface places. The original one at the back door. Then a garage was added and a newer interface box is outside the garage. So I can sit at back door and make measurements. I can to to new box and disconnect house to check house wiring. Service tech used two different wires going to house from pedestal. That wire was replaced about 10 years ago.

I'm watching U-tube videos. Trying to figure out my problem when it's happening. I'm really thinking it may have something to do with we are too far away and wet ground adds changes the impedance of the twisted wires.

THANKS A MILLION.
