Any suggestions on quality, made in USA electors? They will primarily be used for wiring lights, etc. on tractors, trailers and boats. My experience with Chinese connectors has not been good. They rust, corrode and fail to conduct electricity.

Thanks.

Here is USA made heat shrink connectors I buy off Ebay. I have used them now for over 5 years with good results. Very good prices too. The assortment I am linking to has 480 heart shrink connectors for $63 delivered to your door. Locally heat shrink butt connectors will cost fifty cents to a buck each.

But there are probably more of us that have never been able to do anything on any type of soldering than can so that is out for us.

I use waytek are del city... Try heat shrink connectors they are about 3 times the price once you use them you will never go back to a standard crimp connector...

I got a order in today shipping was $18 but worth it for the good chit...

Bob Harvey, that's the way I do it, especially on trailers and boats.

The water and vibration make these some of the most difficult connections.

I'll sometimes use the non insulated crimps to hold everything together, then solder and shrink tube.

For anything exposed to road spray or harsh environment I'll coat the connection with liquid electric tape, then shrink wrap. That makes for a water proof, well protected splice.

The soldered joints is best. Now soldering is like brazing clean is the key, flux then let the solder flow. If it doesn't soak in like then it will be a cold weak joint.

One is never too old to learn. The key to soldering is having the right soldering iron, solder, flux, cleaner. Then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, AND A LITTLE MORE PRACTICE.

If I elect to use a crimp on connector, I'll fill crimp connection with an oxide grease like no crode and seal ends with silicone to keep water out.

I solder and heat shrink everything on trailer wires. If you dont you are wasting your time.

Connectors, terminals or splices? I'm guessing you mean terminals and/or splices.

Raychem is probably the best. The Tyco splices sold at HD are also pretty good.

I got to run to a gun show I will shoot your solder joint theory down when I get back... Yes I was once a solder joint guy till they started giving me problems...

Soldering was in one of the classes I had in school. Instructor finally gave up on getting it to work. We remained friends untill his death a year ago, first met him the first day of high school and I am now 75. The electric soldering guns would melt the tip and not try to melt the solder. That is when I gave up on trying to solder.

As someone stated the key is also the correct type of solder,if you use the acid core it will not hold up and you will loose your connection.Use the type labeled for electrical use.

I've tried a few of this type connector. So far, I'm pretty sure I like them.

I think there is a good chance a hair dryer would work. Especially if you could make a nozzle to confine the air stream to a concentrated area.

I have sold and used both Del City and 3M shrink tube connectors. When necessary have used non insulated connectors with polyolefin black shrink tube. No vinyl shrink tube, brittle.
