Thickness of gasket paper?

Hi,
What thickness gasket should I use? On my International 383 I needed to remove the hydraulic assembly off the gearbox. I will be getting some gasket paper tomorrow but roughly what thickness do I need? Main options are 1.6mm and .8mm and 4mm.

get the same thickness as the old one you are replacing. You are going to need to remove the part and need a new gasket so remove the part now then you can get the same thickness

In many situations the thickness is critical, as for a Farmall oil pump.

You could also buy a square of each thickness. That way you have some in stock. Always replace with the same. Have definitely been there!!

Gene ..... wouldn't the thickness on a used/compressed gasket be at least slightly thinner than a brand new gasket off the parts shelf?

Pep Boys has a good selection in packs with various thickness and material. I used to keep a few packs around. Something like an oil pump cover thickness matters .
