Ot building cattle gaps

When i was a kid back in the 60s my dad built a couple of cattle gaurds. He made them out of 2 inch pipe that he scrounged somewhere. Welded little blocks between them so there was a gap. If you looked staight down the gap would be about 3 inches. Maybe 5 inches on center of pipes. You want no more of a gap so the animals hoof CANNOT fall through. Just enough so their hoof is tippy. Here is one video but go on U-Tube and watch a bunch till you see all of the different designs. They have been around a very long time and are made out of all kinds of materials.

Never heard called gaps, they were guards and most abonded after a couple of years. When you think of gaps you think of space between posts you can squese thru to get away from a cow going mad without the cow being able to follow you, not something under foot.
