that the Yankee Clipper was made by the Planet Jr company? Any idea the years this sled was made?

My younger brother still has one of these Flexible Flyers that he got for Christmas when he was 7 years old in about 1955 or so. No idea about how many years before or since that they made them.

(quoted from post at 21:53:43 11/28/18) Read it closer. It says both Flexible Flyer and Clipper were made by S.L Allen & Co.

Wish we could edit! Clipper should be Planet Jr.

I had one of those that I'd taken real good care of since I was a kid. One hot summer day, I saw my youngest son and his buddy carrying it out of the garage and asked them what they were doing. They said they were gonna clean it up and paint it. About a week later it was back in the garage and painted, but it looked like a 500 pound man had been riding it. I cornered those two boys and they said they had been riding it down the buddy's father's big old barn roof and landing in a big pile of manure. A few days later I saw the father and asked him what he thought of them sliding down his barn roof. He got a funny look on his face and said, "I wondered what made those stripes on that roof"!

I used my Flexible Flyer a couple of days ago to haul my auger out on the lake to drill some holes! I think I
paid about $8 for it at a garage sale a few years ago. I saw in L&M recently they sell new ones, for $65!

I still have my Flexible Flyer from Christmas probably 1959 0r 60. I remember Dad telling us to go out and look in the back of the truck. There were 3 new sleds for the younger boys. We used to take them to school to sled the hill at recess. We also had an excellent hill out in the pasture where we hosted many sledding parties. Had a lot of fun freezing our behinds off. We bought our boys Flexible Fliers in the mid 80's but by then they no longer had the chrome bumper. They were still the fastest sleds on the hill though.

I almost met my maker a few times on runner sleds like that.
Don't remember the brand.
We grew up in the sand dunes at the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
We had a lot of sled runs. The best time was when a strong storm
would blow out of the north and ice up the lake side of the big dune.
You would get some scary speeds out of that.
Oh to be young and invincible again.

I can't date your sleds but I'm guessing late forties.
My favorite memories of sledding was when there was a hard crust on the snow, usually in Feb or March when the sun was getting a little higher in the sky.
We'd have to get out there with the sleds fairly early in the morning before the crust started to soften.
We have plenty of fields with long hills and you could get going extremely fast. Sometimes we would sit up and sometimes we'd lie down.
I don't have any of the sleds from my youth but I have collected a few over the years.
I bought the two big sleds in the pictures about 30 years ago for $25 apiece. They are in excellent shape and I figured I got a good deal.
My late son and I took those big ones out about 10 years ago when there was a hard crust....He was in his forties and I in my sixties but we acted like a couple of kids....we went like the "hammers of Hades". It was great fun!

They are not only longer but they are about 2" higher and much wider than the normal Flexible Flyer.
I don't remember seeing these big ones when I was a kid.

We had the bigger one when I was a kid in the 60's. It got a lot of use with all of us kids. I have no idea what happened to it. We had some good hills with what we called 'cat steps', so steep the cows made trails back and forth horizontally on them...they were hard on sleds. I remember finding some old runners in a junk pile and bolting them to a piece of 1x12...one run down the hill and it split right in half. When the aluminum dishes came out we pretty much gave up on runner sleds....

I used a newer flexible flyer to haul little bales from
the hay stack to the manger in the barn two bales
was about all I could pull with hay

We had/still have one of those bigger ones, however it is in pretty rough shape after all the abuse we gave it. They certainly put on a lot of miles with the four of kids over the years. Going over stonewalls, through the brush, over jumps. At least once through a barb wire fence with a couple of my siblings, ouch.

I didn't know that but I did learn how not to use them. I tried to jump of the high creek bank and land on the other bank, looked good in theory but I came up short, hit the edge of the bank and my butt went through the boards leaving a pretty deep gash in the back of one leg.
