Is their any reason on why I need to pull the lower drive shaft on my 4020 synchro is I?m going to rebuild top shaft
Or what all does the bottom shaft consist of besides main drive gears and shift fork collars, what all need to be checked because I know you can?t by new gears anymore.

If bottom shaft shifting is not giving trouble and collars/gears look good there is no reason to go that deep. Bottom shaft service requires removing wheels, axles, and differential first.

Why are you working on the top shaft? If you are having problems in high and or reverse you are on the right track but if you are missing a range (1st,3rd and reverse or 2nd,5th and R ect)you have bottom shaft issues. Linkage is very important and is a good place to start before trans work. I also update the pointers in the side of the trans case with a ball and retainer setup that was used starting with the later 30 series tractors. Get a Deere service manual and take your time you can do it. Tom
