New tractor

Got the Allis B! Got it from a nursery / garden shop. Was told it ran last Christmas. Someone took the oil cap off and the pan is full of water. It won't turn over, but I didn't try hard either. Maybe it's an early'39 ? Y'all look it over and offer opinions. I swapped a couple Nativity sets for it. Cost me about$100 in plywood.

I had one just like it, except for the hood. I can't figure that out. I had just got it, as a basket case, when I learned of one nearby, with electric and hydraulic. I got the '39 together, used it some, sold it, and got the newer one!
 
Now you can be on the lookout for something to trade for a milk cow. That petcock in manifold above carburetor should run a milking machine!!
 

Sounds like a pretty poor deal to me. Your talent and time as an artist to paint the plywood must be worth at least $2,000!
 
Barney ytdot fife to place you under arrest for again breaking every rule in the ytdot handbook😂😂. That?s a nice little tractor you got there I?d say you did good . Do you have any pictures of the nativity sets
 
That's a good deal, they're great little tractors. Lots of fun, and good for pulling a wagon or skidding small logs. The first tractor I owned was a C, and had a B also for a little while.

Drain the oil, pour a little ATF in through the sparkplug holes and cross your fingers. Definitely an older one with the hand brakes. Hope the governor isn't busted. Those are rugged little engines if someone hasn't trashed it. They have a very distinct Allis Chalmers sound to them. Very sticatto very business like purr. If you want to try a way to get her loose this way works amazingly well. After the ATF has soaked a few days and you refill the oil in the crankcase. With the plugs out, screw in the hose from your compression tester to each hole till you find the one under compression. Now screw on an air hose fitting. Plug it into your compressor and jump back! Bet ya she pops loose. Will suprise the dickens out of you. If it doesn't you got bigger problems. Did this on several tractors. Better than bending up a crank handle.
 
Power unit hood,air cleaner and probably motor.Have never seen hand brakes made like those on a B or C.Real nice B though,if its stuck I'd pull the head and clean up the cylinders and head before I did anything else.You got a good deal.
 
You really need to start applying some physics to your tie downs, putting a strap across does virtually nothing. I really like you, but it seems like you have a pattern of doing unsafe things. Please listen to the people on here about correct tie downs, we want you to be around for a long time and not sued.
 
I think all of us rednecks in Bama strap our tractors across the belly like that, I been hauling them that way 40 years now, one across the belly, one across front axle or brush guard and one across the implement, works for me. The law is okay with it here and as long as your straps are good the tractor is not moving
 
Hope she pops loose for you. That 120 pounds of air pressure doesn't sound like much but you spread that much pressure across the surface of a piston it adds up. ALERT.. With that rain water coming down through the oil filler hole it might be a good idea the pull the valve cover first thing. Check all of the rockers and avoid bending the daylights out of the push rods and valves. Squrit oil all over the place and wiggle test things. Just thinking ahead. Good luck!
 
have the straps or chains pull out and away from each corner, let the straps take the stress, not the brakes.

When you pull the spark plugs, check for liquid water in the cylinders.

That will need to come out first so the ATF will get down to the rings.

You can rig up a piece of plastic tubing duct taped to the shop vac, vacuum out any water or loose rust. Then blow out with the air hose.

Pulling the rocker shaft and getting all the valves closed first is also a good idea. If any are stuck open, sometimes they can be oiled up, broken loose or pried shut.
 
Evidently not illegal in Alabama, i?ve asked State Troopers here, was given the green light, good to go with straps. On heavier equipment though they want to see chains and binders
 
May not show up in any of the pictures,but I have 2 straps on the front axle pulling opposite ways. Always have at least 3 on each tractor.

I’m from Alabama also straps are ok but you need to be careful going across that torque tube with a strap very easy to crack that cast iron. roll tide

I forgot to add, if you have governor problems, find a complete unit from a later tractor with the oil line that lubs the gov.
 
when you put air to it, have the spark plug side of the engine toward a wall that needs waterproofing. don't ask me how I know.
 
Looks like you got a good deal, nice if you can free it up easily. About those front wheels--original to the tractor? Look a bit like the donut spare off a car.

Gene Bender, it would be better if you would add "I think" to your post. You must not have seen the long thread about a year ago about chains vs. straps.

You sure the previous owners don't have them? Might have swapped them out to save some money on new tires and set them aside?
 
Any time you tie/chain anything, do it like you are trying to pull it apart or squeeze it together. You want to assure no movement when you start or stop. FYI , I may have a front rim or 2. 662/231/1958
