Crossover Country

That?s a good tune . You?re right crossover country has been around a long time even Marty Robbins had cross over music but none of it?s the Same the crap on the radio now .

Here's another less well known one but a favorite of mine.

Enjoy this one by Dickey Lee.

If you do not know of Dickey Lee, post back and I'll post a link to his blockbuster 1962 hit.

Ashes of Love

Country is good music. Old, not so old.

I like a lot of crossover stuff.

Somewhere around the turn of the century it has taken an odd turn. I don?t hate it, but I have to hunt and pick some now to find songs I like. It?s not just automatic I?ll enjoy a whole playlist any more......

It seems the really bad mash up of country and rap has faded some. That?s a good thing.

Folks, when it comes to crossover country hits, they don't get any better than this.

It was Connie's very first recording, and it went to # 1 on both country and pop charts in 1965.

Once A Day

Dean,

Are you a country music historian, singer, musician, or? Seems you have a great grasp of the music.

Ron

No, Ron, I'm not. I play no instruments and haven't sang since HS choir in the late 1960s. I just like music, especially 1950s music, both popular and country.

Is there more than one "Ashes of Love"? The original was written by Jim and Jack Anglin and Johnny Wright. Made famous by the singing of Johnny and Jack.

Never before heard it being sung by Dickie Lee. The Desert Rose Band does a fantastic version of it with Jay Dee Maness on pedal steel guitar and John Jorgenson on electric lead guitar.

Ron

Lee's first writing success was "She Thinks I Still Care" sung as a big hit by George Jones. I've just learned that tune on the pedal steel guitar. Jones did it in key of "B". Lots of sharps !!
