Does anyone have experience with using a kuhn slinger model 8118 which requires 100 h.p min on a 4240 (or similar) tractor which has 111 h.p. Is the 4240 big enough for that spreader?

I think the biggest issue would be is the tractor heavy enough to control the spreader.110 horse should plenty to pull and spread.A big heavy spreader needs a heavy tractor in front.

Dry or liquid? An 8118 has 1800 gallon capacity = 18,000 lb payload plus about 5000 lbs for the spreader weight. So expect you've got around 23,000 lbs behind you. Flat ground, you're probably OK. Hilly ground, it'd be iffy. Is your tractor fully weighted? A full rack of weights on the front and 4 pairs of steel weights in the back would help a lot, but then you might run into hp issues. That tractor probably would weigh 15,000-16,000 lbs fully ballasted.

I had 716 slingers until recently - 1600 gallon capacity, but used for dry chicken litter. I pulled them with 4430s without much trouble. I now have an 8018 (older version of what you're considering), and I pull it with a 4840. It's overkill, but I feel a lot safer with 19,000 lbs of tractor on my steep farm.

bed pack and liquid pit manure, I have it currently on a 4010 know which handles the weight "ok" on my flat farmland but really struggled h.p wise spreading bedpack. its spread liquid good enough, but yes the weight is really a lot for a 4010 . so I think the weight on the 4240 should be good for my land. thanks for the input!
