Have a 66' 4020 power shift. Want to repair worn linkage in the
transmission control valve ( down on the right side of the transmission.) Tried to take the valve cover off, but it don't seem to want to come off. Do I have to take the whole control valve off to fix this ?
Thanks

If your referring to item #10, then yes you need to take the complete valve off the tractor and work on it on a bench.
Drain the oil prior to removing the valve, you wont regret it.

Also, since the oil is drained check the sump screen for debris.

Thanks Hay maker.
Yes, that is what I was talking about. I have the bolts out of that piece & it is loose, but it won't come off. I was afraid the whole valve asy. had to come off. Not looking forward to removing that.
Do you know if I have to watch for balls or springs or anything
that might fall out when I take it off ?

Nothing will fall out loose when you remove the complete body, It is not as bad as it looks..

I have been reading some back articles and found one you wrote on a rebuild you did on a power shift tractor you had, and were having pressure problems on it. did you ever find out what the problem was? just wondering how it turned out. I also find myself using the inching pedal as a clutch pedal all the time even when shifting.
