I understand which viscosity, but which T? T4 regular, T5 semi-synthetic, T6 Full synthetic? What if I mistakenly mix them, as I will do??

all of them meet the api spec and wear test... but have slightly different base oils... Obviously the 5w-40 will perform much better in the very very cold starting, but at normal temps perform the same. At over temp, will perform better, but then why would you run over temp? And the 5w-40 base is slightly better in stability. If your doing snow removal or winter feeding "up north" the t6 may be a better solution do to faster cold cranking. If you have a block heater, not much difference.
No, it does not hurt to mix them. in the southwest, the t4 is fine. In the arctic the t6 is required. Pick your choice and keep up with maintenance.

SON changed the oil in my old '96 Ford diesel pickup. I'd used the old T-1 15W-40 in summer and a couple changes of 10W-30 in winter for 300,000 miles, 100 or 110 oil changes. Son could NOT find any T-4 10W-30, so used 10W-30 T-5 which strangely was cheapest at the automotive dept. at Menards home center/lumber yard, $11/gallon.

Used to be that switching to a full synthetic oil in an engine that had only had conventional oil used in it would cause the engine to start leaking at various gaskets, frt & rear main seals, etc. I have not heard that the problem no longer exists.
