Dish Network? I have to 86 Direct TV. We have no cable here. Since ATT took over Direct TV the price has gone crazy and currently they are sending me bills for +/- $200 a month. Thinking of signing up with Dish for 2 years for a much lower price. Wonder what issues anyone might have had with Dish?

I have Dish used to have Direct TV like Dish better all around, especially if there is a problem Direct would always want us to pay for their equipment that went bad Dish has been
easy to get a long with so far and the guys they have sent out are very nice and helpful.

Works great for me.

$111.85 per month. That includes payments on the equipment. Plus my wife loaded it up with all sorts of sports channels.

Had Direct and have had Dish for awhile now. Cost is inching up towards what we paid Direct. All a very big rip-off if you ask me. Local phone company buried optic fiber this summer and should be functional soon. Guess we'll give them a try....E SD.

My phone company put in fiber 5 years ago and have been on it since. I work from home and need the high speed fiber offers.
Oh, I work for a telcom engeenering firm that designs the fiber to the home

My power company put in fiber optic about 4 years ago. I get my phone, internet,tv,and power all from same company and love it. Cheaper to.

I tried to get DISH and am still not sure they have quit fighting. When the installer showed up he was supposed to bring the contract; however when he got here said it's coming. He went ahead and installed (the product is very nice) and started to leave and I again asked for the contract which was on his tablet. After reading it there a couple of changes I wanted to protect me, the customer, He got on the phone and their agent said they would send the corrected contract, never happened. The price was not stable and kept rising AND they wanted to direct withdraw from my bank account. When the bill finally came there was a contract attached that was different from the one shown when installing. I paid the bill with a check to a P.O. box listed on the bill and their web site. The next month got another bill adding interest because "I hadn't paid the first bill". So this time I paid the money to put a stop on the first check and sent a check for the new bill with receipt required for delivery. The Postmaster signed it when it was put in the P.O. box--it was never picked up. I have talked to the headquarters to no avail. They have sent TWO collection companies after the money both of whom don't come back after I tell the story.
Something is wrong with the way their business is set up and run and they do not fix it. I will not do business with them.
Some of my neighbors deal with these people by opening a bank account which empty except when the bill is paid. And give that to DISH for direct withdrawal.

There are other companies which provide internet/TV service; they require direct line-of-sight and are somewhat expensive.

They are both crooks. Play their game. I think the best way to deal with them is to take their special 2 year deals and switch back and forth every 2 years, then they can't keep slipping in their little add ons. I have Direct now, switching to Dish the first of the year.

We have had Dish for about 20 years. Current bill is $85/month for their top 100 package. We have always been happy with them. If a tree grows and blocks the signal they come by and move the dish at no charge. Signal will be lost during heavy part of a thunderstorm for a couple minutes.

We prefer Dish. Played the game of switching back and forth to get cheaper price but Direct TV had too many problems and they kept trying to increase the price during the contract period. We have been using Dish for many years and have no issues.

The main reason I refuse to give up my expensive Directv is that I will not have the house wired for my three other televisions and the Directv wireless router and receivers work perfectly. I can even move a TV out to the deck with no wire except the power cord needed. Will never go back to having to have a wire to a television other than the power cord. If Dish comes out with same technology will consider moving as I do like the Dish interface better.

I had Dish for a number of years. My experience was mixed. First problem was my first month's bill. I was charged extra for not being connected to a phone line even though I was. I called about it and they removed the charge. Next month, same thing. So, they sent someone to check it out. Receiver was bad. After the repairman tried the third one from his truck, we finally got one that was OK. Over the course of 5 or 6 years, I had no less than 12 receivers replaced. My opinion was that their equipment is junk.

One fine day, I was looking at the TV while I was folding laundry. The picture suddenly went to snow. I called them and they told me that they would send a technician out for a $39.95 service charge. I refused to pay it. I had not been previously charged for their equipment failures and I told them so. After arguing for a bit, the agent told me that he would connect me to "someone that could help with my problem." After a short time on hold, another person came on the phone and asked me when I would like for them to disconnect my service. I told him that NOW would be a good time.

Now, for the kicker. First, they got very threatening, telling me that they were going to charge me all kinds of fees for terminating the service, deposits on their equipment, and a few other things. They demanded that I ship their receiver back to them at my expense. Throughout the entire process of discontinuing my service, they were very nasty, confrontational, and hostile. I threatened to go to a lawyer. About a week or so later, an agent contacted me and offered to "settle" for a lesser amount (for my final bill) and send me a prepaid mailer for my receiver.

I would not do business with them again.

Dish doesn't have all the same channels Direct has. I watch MAVTV , motorsports events and such. I love the drag boat races. Something about 1000 HP on the water.
So check what you might want to watch. joe

IMHO Dish is the lesser of the 2 evils had both vowed never ever to return to Direct TV. The only reason we keep it is for local news channels. Been working toward cutting the cable for awhile now. Jimg yours is not the first story I've heard like that. My similar experience was with Direct TV. Both stink in my opinion. I you can get antenna to work for local 80% of other shows are available with a smart TV or Roku if you have good internet. We share services with other family members Hulu and Netflix

Started with Dish for 4 years, then switched to Direct for 6 years. Got fed up with $100.00 + per month, (over $12,000 for 10 years) and put up an antenna. Couldn't be happier, and saving over $1200 a year. Between OTA (over the air) and Netflix, I have more to watch than I have time.

I have been through 4 satellite services, after the higher frequency services came out subsequent to C band, and currently with Dish. I have the local channels and 250 pack for $117/month. I had Dish and Viasat (Exede) internet services and both were about the same service. Dish gives a $10 deduction on your bill for having both services. Satellite was $67 as I recall. I recently went to one internet provider and Viasat won the toss.

We got tired of the Direct TV prices too. We only watch a few of the channels so it is no bargain to pay for channels we never watch. I'm not a sports fan and have never watched a football game. Car races I could watch or tractor pulls definately.
They ran fiber optic cable by our place so we opted to connect with them. We get our home phone, high speed internet, and TV cheaper than quest home phone/internet, and direct TV. Quest only offered a 12 megabit Internet where the fiber high speed is a gigazone for the first year all installation was free, then we can drop to 250 megabit speed. All this is cheeper than Derect TV, Quest package bundle. The wireless boxes on two of our TV's work great. It is only a Cat 5 cable to the main DVR. I can even get TV in my garage 80' away wireless.

I've had both the DISH and the DIRECT. Both worked good. Both are just too expensive. Went back to an antenna for local TV, and a ROKU stick. Subscribed to Netflix, Hulu, and CBS-all access. Each of those is about $11 per month, so for just $33 per month, we can watch every TV show that airs on any of the networks, plus gives us access to countless FREE movies.

Good with Dishnetwork for 20+ years. I like Dish interface better than Direct (son). Probably which ever you get used to, you will prefer. You will regret flip flopping back and forth between Direct & Dish to try & save money. Neighbor did this several times until he finally saw the light. Channel line up different, re-learn the controllers, pay extra for upgrade to get a channel the the other had as part of base package (your favorite channel!). Read the fine print....big price increase after first 6 months. Now back where you started or worse. Which ever you currently have will always have the other offering you a lower price....for a few months, anyway. Aggravation darn near drove the old man insane.

If you have good internet speed, consider streaming your live sports and cable TV, young people watch TV on their tables. Most teams offer free or pay-per-view streaming of every game. Streaming free radio coverage of games works when working in the shop. Over the air networks besides CBS offer free streaming of their programs for about a month after they are first broadcast. Roku offers hundreds of free and paid networks. Hulu, Amazon Prime, and NetFlix are low cost sources too. I don't know much about Spike TV for sports.

I've had both Dish and Direct. Dish is better programing IMO. Neither one is inexpensive. Dish is better on replacing equipment, but it's all expensive. I don't for the life of me understand why they won't offer just the channels we want to have. The tech is already there to do it. But I have to get 250 channels to get the 12 or 15 we actually use. I don't need any sports, any ethnic channels any foreign language, religious, porn, sales, or music channels. But you have to buy the package to get what you want . It's stupid, but there we are.

I get a bunch of channels over my antenna. When I go to Walmart direct tv reps try to save me money with an AT&T discount. I tell them if it is any cheaper than free I will take it.

Have had Dish for 15 years, very good service. If I need help and call the 800 number, they are right there and they are in Ohio, not India. Very good to deal with.

On and off Satellite user for almost 2 decades here. Only used Dish myself. Uncle has DirectTV and says the Dish interface is better. Prices on both tend to creep over the years if you aren't mindful of the bill. DirectTV seemed clumsy to use (for me) and heavy on the billfold (for him).

Sometimes I call and get someone in the USA that is helpful, other times the call is routed international and the "representatives" are anything but... Think it has to do with the time of the call but not sure...

The techs have always been good to work with.

Overall it has been a satisfactory experience, just got the Hopper Duo DVR and it is nice to watch the shows that I normally miss during the day.
